Went out with a fair crowd on a nice day. The roll was a bit sharper than forecasted on the way out but it flattened out by late morning. Every drop had a pick of mixed sized ling. There were also sea bass, but most were short. A few bluefish and a good number of doggies rounded out the catch.
Those who fished enough weight and paid attention caught. Those who were in dreamland, fished 6 oz and had lots of colors and gadgets on their rigs had some dog issues. I wound up with 34 ling and a sea bass. The guy next to me had 30 ling. The pool winner was a 4lb cod and he also had 2 sea bass and 22 ling. There was a ling that looked bigger than the cod, but wasn't in the pool.
Some people only had 4 or 5, but there was usually a good reason for that. In closing, use 12oz, fish plain rigs close to the bottom with a moderate amount of bait to avoid dogs and keep your line tight enough to feel a bite. Then if you hook a fish, refrain from pumping and winding like a mad man or reeling very slow which usually leads to a bluefish or doggie attack.
