I need to fish but a low bank account prevents me from jumping on a boat right now. So, I will be trying the canal or the jetty in Manasquan (I know they are doing beach replenishment). Any reports from that area? Either way, I will at one of those places on Sunday so I plan to post my report good or bad.
Fish it up.

My brother and I fished the canal last sunday and crushed them, over 30 shorts with 10 keeper size tog (15 -17"). The odd thing was, we didnt get a bite during slack low, but the bite turned on casting deep into center of the canal with heavy lead during the first three hours of incoming. The tog were chewing hard as the bait slowly slid down current. Good Luck!

Same technique worked well for us. Just have to be careful with snags.

The fishing in the canal has been very good the last couple weeks although seems to be slowing down a bit

I havnt fished there in the last week but I have had a lot of luck at the Belmar inlet. I fish primarily the north side all the way from under the bridge out to the tip. There's a good amount of shorts as well as the occasional keeper. If you put some time in you should find something to take home. Slack tide is usually better. Also had a decent bight on the incoming. It is much easier to fish this inlet with current in comparison to the canal.

Middle of the canal is sandy. As your bait moves with the tide it comes to the edge of the rocks and that's when the Blackfish do what they do.

If you go to PPC, make sure you have at least 3 dz. crabs. Fishing there has been GREAT, but it seems once the season opens up to more then 1 fish, they move out. I think they get a notice from the government to get the heck out of there.:D
