Haven't posted in a while because I've been striking out surf fishing.
So I tried something different today. I anchored my kayak in 10 ft of water over a rock pile ff staten island.

I caught 14 blackfish in 90 minutes.

One over seven pounds, one five and Also a 17" keeper.
All shorts wer 14-15 inches

Very funny trying to net the large ones in the shallows. It took 3-4 shots to get them in the net.

That sounds really cool. Just curious how far off the shore were you and how was the water temp? What kind of kayak?:D

I never tried to blackfish from my yak. I guess that's partially because I don't know of many rock piles near shore. Great report!

Jon, I also have a 13' Hobie revolution. If either of you would like a sidekick on a trip just keep me in mind.

Might be an area where you can use a light spinning outfit and a 1/2 oz-1oz jig tiped with crab to catch the togs if you weren't using that already.....

Thanks for the offer. I can do all of the above with the exception of Saturday. I have an offshore charter booked for the Hudson. I appreciate the offer just this weekend wont work. Let me know if you ever need a partner. I was on another kayak fishing specific site and looks like it may have shut down??

Petey, By the looks of the weather this weekend may be an off shore blow out so keep that black fishing trip on the back burner.

We have an ok black fishing area about a mile off our NJ coast as well near were we all usually launch from front side in about 20 fow.
Problem its usually packed with boats early season as that water is good and warm.

Also that "other site" came back up on Sat afternoon.
