We held our biggest event yet this past Saturday at Picatinny Arsenal with 35 vets participating and about 30 volunteers. We fished PA earlier in the season and it was a pickeral fest with everyone catching many many picks. But this lake gets very weedy and the overgrowth made for some tough conditions. Even so, plenty of pickeral, bass and perch were caught. Our friends at CDP Partners cooked up a wonderful lunch. All in all, an incredible day for October.
Another shout out to Pete at Atlantic Bait & Tackle who provided a Fenwick/Okuma combo for one lucky vet. That lucky vet was Klaus Weihenig, seen in the picture below. Note, he was getting ready to buy a shirt when he won... hence the money in his hand. :)
Also thanks to The Kayak Fishing Store who hooked us up with some extra kayaks once they heard that we were going to have 30+ participants.
This was our 10th and final outing of the season. Thanks to all of you who have supported us. We now bring in the off season with a Kayak Fishing Jamboree in Cape May to raise funds for more kayaks and equipment, as well as going to all of the winter shows to get the good word out about HOW-NJ. Stop by and say "hi"! We're going to regroup over the winter and explore ways in which we can augment the larger events, with smaller, more intimate outings so we can make the program available to even more of our vets. They need this and they love it.
