Tenacious Sportfishing

Took some friends to the Hudson for an overnighter Thursday and Friday. Afternoon trolling was slow but we managed a double header of longfin just before setting up for the night. Mike threw a jig as we were settling on the line and landed a 3rd longfin. Night chunking was uneventful till midnight when the guys fought a blue shark that turned out to be a legal mako which was released to grow. The first yellowfin was caught on a jig. The next bite was a large sword on a tuna rod that came to the surface and then dove and would not yield till the leader parted. At 2 am the sword rod goes off and Pete (Triple Nickel) lands a 120 lber. At 3am the yellowfins began taking bait and the guys could not believe the pulling power of these large and belligerent fish. By daybreak they landed seven more large yellowfins including a 110 lb Allison and lost as many. The last yellowfin was landed by Russ (Rascal) on a chunk with a jigging rod. At 7am they watched yellowfins taking chunks on the side of the boat but we were out of ice and they decided they had enough fish so we left them biting and headed for the barn. Beautiful weather, great friends, good fishing, it doesn't get better than this!
