Lifted this story & pic from another site -->

KUDOS to "Johnny Steiger." a local pinhooker that fishes out of JBay - first for the capture, then super-carefully transporting it to a local tackle shop for weighing - and then and most of all, for returning the fish to the water, alive and kicking!

The brute weighed exactly 22lbs and was (and still is!) 33 inches long. I am told that it gave Johnny the fight of a lifetime, running sideways like a bass and then bulldogging straight to the bottom twice, before being carefully netted.

Word is that NYS will not recognize this fish as a new State record, as it was caught outside the Recreational season, and that the LIF has refused to enter it into its "Dream Boat" contest - for the same reason.

Whatever, because in any case, it is truly a fish of a lifetime! ! !

Couldn't imagine catching that fish in relatively shallow water. Nice to see it back were it belongs. In the water.

If it was out of season shouldnt he be ticketed for possessing it?

If he is a legal pinhooker than he has a commercial permit to catch a certain amount of blackfish per day anytime the commercial season is open.

Wow, congrats to the angler for landing it and releasing it! His face in the pic looks like he just gave birth to the beast w/o pain killers.

Johnny Steiger (aka John Mandolfo) is an Old friend of mine who I went to Junior High School & High School with in Flushing Queens.

When we were in our late teens the 2 of us used to fish J Bay every chance we would get !

Congrats on a catch of a lifetime Johnny !!!

My hat's off to that guy for going through the trouble of keeping that fish alive and returning it to the water. I'm always amazed at guys who do this.
