This is actually a good article.
usually the media starts hysterically screaming "PIRANHA INVASION!!!" evry time some kid dumps his unwanted Pacu into a local waterway.

Here's an arrticle where a Pacu was caught in the Delaware River and nj.com deliberately called it a "piranha".
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/09/trenton_resident_catches_south.html

These tropical fish don't survive past the winter. The problem is the bacteria and parasites they carry with them do and can infect the local fish. This is one of the sources of the Largemouth Bass Virus (LMBv).

In South Florida, these Pacu continue to grow after they are released. Specimens have been caught the size of garbage can lids!

The NJ.com article mentions them confusing nuts for nuts. Trade in the waders for a jock strap.:D

Anyone remember hearing/reading about some sort of South American fish caught in the Passaic, maybe 4-6 years back? Tried finding a link but came up dry.

This is great! Love to see South American fish in NJ waters. Hey F&G can we stock some Tiger Fish in the big NJ rivers? I'd love to see that. Talk about a good time! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

i agree, it's just too bad that they price everything like it's made of solid gold. good place to stop in for advice though.

River monsters had a show on the nut busters. Natively they feed on nuts hanging down from some bushes or falling from trees. They were stocked by some country's fish and game and started attacking the nuts of locals skinny dipping, which in that country was apparently not uncommon

A'int that right. The new Fish Hut on 46E in Saddle Brook has just as nice of a selection with better prices.

Good to know, I'm gonna have to check that out. I love Absolutely Fish, but the prices get me every time. I gotta say I've had good luck with fish from there as compared to other stores tho, and that's important adding a new fish to a community tank and not having to worry about disease.

I saw the Pacu article in the paper and on NJ12 news....pisses me off people risking local fish just to get rid of their mistakes in buying pets. People are selfish.
