Left the barn late morning to do some solo C and R on tog in a nice light west wind. Slow start with a couple nice sea bass, a few striped ones, and as the tide chanced so did the wind. I had to reset twice as I kept swinging off the piece. Getting frustrated I decided to see what might by hanging around the wreck, put on a bucktail, casted away from the boat, jigged twice, and I got hammered. Thinking it was another striper, as he made several good runs. Got the fish to the top and was surprised to see a doormat. Of course the net wasn't within reach, but I managed to net this monster. It was 14lbs on the boga, but Atlantic Bait and Tackle's official scale had hi at 13.43lbs. My PB beating a 12.5l ber. Couldn't begin to explain the thoughts going through my head to keep it or release it. I decided to get it skin mounted as they look the best. Also I have released my share of big fish. Wound up with 8 keeper tog to 5lbs, which all where released but one, and the mat. Good day in my book! Thanks for the pic Gerry.

Check out this Fluke caught yesterday by our own Islander (AKA Kevin) who is a regular on the site. Kevin was out solo anchored up on some sticky stuff doing some explority Togging...
I was out with George and had been in touch with Kevin on and off...When the South wind started howling we headed for the barn and got a call from Kevin... " Just heading around the peer and headed to the marina" and in a matter of fact voice he said " and I got a 14 lb Fluke".
Needless to say George and I wanted to see this fish so we meet Kevin back at Leonardo.
" Changing winds and tides kept me moving off the piece so I decide to do some Bucktailing... I thought it was a Striper at first since it took a long run and I had one follow up my bait before. When it came up on top I said HOLY $HIT!! Now I'm by myself and the net is on the other side of the boat and my big cooler is between me and the net...I kicked the cooler out of the way, got the net, put it on the Boga and it's looking like 14 lbs ".
I snapped a few photos of the fish and couldn't resist taking one with me and texting it to my brother to show him what I caught :D
Kevin left to go weigh in the fish with Pete at Atlantic Bait and Tackle and texted us back that the official weight was 13.4.
Great fish there Kevin... Congrats and even better, you did it solo.

Congrats on fish of a lifetime. Really enjoy reading your reports especially blackfish catches. Seems like you guys really know good bottom which leads to your impressive catches.

Hey man, very nice mat.! Did you fish the tip of the hook at some rocky structure or did you go off to the reef that was near by? I am just curious to see what's going on with the fish in that area with the changing water tenperatures.
Regardless though, very nice!
