After fluke ends, and sea bass begins???
Its a bit closer, and saves me at least 50 miles and an hour total from up here in central NY, if I can go there instead of Belmar or Brielle/Point.. I realize most will switch to blues/stripers, but was hoping maybe one or two would do 3/4 Sea Bass/Porgies/Triggers/Tog in late Sept into October.. Anyone know?? bob

Check out Angler's website, looks like they switch to bottom after fluke season ends.

thanks guys..I really appreciate it.. The 50 miles and 1 hour less drive really make a big difference for me.. Only problem is that the AH boats don't always get enough people down to sail on week days.. Might have to stick to week ends... bob

AH is exit 117 and you drive on rt 36 for 10 miles with many lights

Belmar is exit 98 with 3 or 4 miles? to harbor

You are looking at no more than 12-15 mile difference and probably the same number of minutes

And yes, I drive from NY as well

just mapquested it Mahwah to AH 66 miles and 1 hour 28 minutes

Mahwah to Belmar 78 miles 1.40 minutes

I agree, I travel from Staten Island, and sandy hook is only a few minutes closer than belmar. I opt for belmar over sandy hook head boats 95% of the time.

Sheepshead bay Brooklyn's head boata would be a good alternative if saving an hour of travel time.

Which ports are closer to the fishing grounds...If driving by car is about the same distance then that part wouldn't matter, but if the northern boats are closer to the grounds i would opt for them...I would rather have less boat travel time which equals to more fishing time especially if the seas aren't that friendly..And don't say that the southern boats don't travel that far north as i have seen some of them up at the clam beds and even into RB..I don't mind car travel time, but I would take a port closer to the fishing grounds.

Same here, I come from SI and the difference is about 5-7 minutes if I remember correctly.

It adds and hour to the trip from Candor NY if I go to Brielle.. I have been doing it for 22 years, and have a handle on it by now.. Its 16 miles longer each way.. I thought it was 20-25, but that was incorrect according to mapquest.. So I save and hour or close to it going to AH... Believe me it makes a difference... bob

I believe fluke closes after this weekend so all boats have to change their targets. Some will probably go bottom fishing and others for bass. Click on the "Party Boat" tab above & scroll down to Atlantic Highlands. There's links to their web sites and phone numbers.

Now I see why all your threads wind up being fights, you can never admit you are wrong

You started saying 50 miles and a hour which is what I disputed

Right. I get it .. YOU are the expert, even though I am the one doing the driving, and have been since 1991 when I moved form Forked River to upstate NY.
, As I stated, its 16 miles closer each way, and with the route I take, and traffic, that equates to an hour or close to it...
However, Mapquest knows best, as your post indicates..
you're an internet expert...

32 miles less drive time total and an hour or thereabouts less time is significant... By the way, if you get so irritated by my posts, and they "end up in fights" why not stay off of them??.. That makes sense,,
does it not???... bob
