"Team Yellowfin"was joined yesterday with another of Wylie's masterpieces Jim Sheers brandy new 36 yellowfin "Shore Bet" with all the latest toys including "Fleer nite vision"......both yellowfin teams broke manasquan inlet @ 230 am to a stiff northwest wind and stacked up 3 to 4 footers on the port stern quarter.....but the weather was no match for these fine "Yellowfin" center consoles, as they danced on the waves doing 30 knots with a fuel burn of only 1.3 miles to the gallon....both boats had a total fuel burn of less than 200 gallons on this trip....not bad for two monster center consoles....any way we arrived to the edge @445am and both teams deployed their spread on the west wall of the Hudson.....had some readings but nothing great....around 6am I reached my buddy Freddy on the Andreas Toy and he gave me location on a strong bite...thx buddy!!....so both teams headed that way.....just as we reached a small fleet doing damage with one boat on a bigeye.....our center rigger pulling a new Reel Seat invention glow in the dark white 12 inch green machine spreader bar and it explodes with a huge White Marlin......we clear the port side rods and I keep the "Team Yellowfin" boat in position to land this nice size whitey.... We bring him boat side pull him in for some quick snap shots and let him go....we redeploy the rest of the spread and make it to the bite.....with both Yellowfin Teams pounding the area and Freddy on his Andreas Toy.....we start smacking the Longfin around final tally for the Yellowfin Teams was 12 Longfin, 1 Whitey, 13 Mahi, with Jim's boat trying for some tiles and landing one nice one!! Btw that new glow in the dark bar by the Reel Seat did better than 50 percent of the damage on the Longfin!!!

Both Teams pulled the lines in early around noon and headed back to the barn in a stiff north west again....this direction made for a bumpy head sea ride back but no match for both yellowfin teams as we both averaged around 38 knots!! Till the next time in Team Yellowfin offshore adventures!!

Boys on another note Captain Evans Head Hunter will be winding down his Canyon Fishing in New Jersey this week as the Giant Bluefin bite is heating up to the north....we are booked for the weekend but still have a handful of spots left on Wed/Thurs. and Thurs./Fri. Sept. 18/19 overnighter...............3 spots

Leaving already? Seems like he just got here.

What is "Team Yellowfin"? Are they for hire boats or privately owned? I don't think that's clear.

just a question, but if you left mi at 230, fishing at 445, thats 2 hours and 15 minutes of run time, at 30 knots, thats 67.5 nautical miles, what canyon is within reach of that far from mi?

Captain Evan feeds his family with his boats....the original plan was to take his 38 down east up to Chatham , and then either drive back to run the 52 or have his other captain Scott run the 52 when he was Giant fishing ....but the fish are way out at George's bank.....Evan just figures his 52 is not filling charters here in jersey because of the lack of a yellowfin nite chunk bite....so he might as well be safer in the 52 than the 38!

As far as team yellowfin they are private boats....sorry for the confusion!

Also guess we were averaging a little more than 30 knots!

Just curious why there is such a lack of interest in Canyon fishing this fall? Boys Head hunter will be heading north very soon..... you got just two more chances at getting it on with the Tuna on a one of a kind Tuna Killing Machine with a great captain and crew!!

Lack of a chunk bite. As soon as some decent reports come in I'm sure everyone will want to book. Personally, I don't care for trolling and with the cost of a canyon trip I'd rather wait for a chunk bite. Just my opinion and I know you can't catch them sitting on a couch.

I am speaking personally but I think it effects many. The lack of good/great reports has people holding on commiting 600/1000 dollars too early on a trip. The economy has hit many including myself. I used to commit to 2-3 trip per year in NJ and MA and go on 10-12 multi day trips. The regs really hurt when you spend many hundred dollars and you have to throw back more then you catch. The tuna regs are a prime example. 3 yellowfin per person on a trip!! Really I spend 150 on gas tolls etc, 750-1000 on fare pools tips etc to only keep 3 fish in 48/50 hours is crazy!! 2 days should mean 2 days worth of fish!! If I commit to trips in September /october what happens when the bite explodes in late october or november??? I am SOL , Me and Many wait and spend the fare money when it gives best chance on jhaving a good trip!!!! I am not a meat hunter and some of my best trips I have caught littel but for some it is all about the table fare

My rant for the day!!!

Well, most know that the better and more reliable bite has been going on down south. Yes, a longer car ride to Cape May, but shorter boat ride and much cheaper boats down there. Also, many prefer to chunk instead of troll and the chunk bite has practically been non existent with the exception of a sporadic trip or two here and there. $600 plus is a lot of $ to lay out with the regs and lack of chunk bite.

Guys everything you are all bringing up is exactly what me and Captain Evan felt was the cause of the lite bookings.....I for one have been very affected by the economy....and now have to watch every penny I spend.

This is why Captain Evan and his wife have made the hard choice to go and chase the Giant Bluefin around up in Chatham for the big $$$......They pay their bills with their boats and have to do what is best for their family.

On another note we will start taking reservations for The great winter Bluefin bite in North Carolina......Our targeted destination is Oregon inlet....but we will go where the fish are!!

Cost for these trips will be $350/pp and $1850 for the whole boat.

The Bluefin bite down there is nothing short of amazing.....so give us a shout if you want to tangle with some of the big boys!!
