Fished a local, privately owned lake today. Have fished it before and is always a good spot to fish. First fish of the day for me was a 6.2lb largemouth. I then started to work the tip of an old dock. I had three ru-offs with the leader breaking all three time. I upped the leader to 10lb floro and hooked and landed a nice hybrid striper. All big fish were caught on live herring. Finished up the day fishing a 4" senko for dinks. Seems like the bigger fish shut down as the day got later. Also had kids with us, so we really couldn't work the whole area.

That largemouth is a beast. It looks close to my personal best lmb.
Must be a good size lake to have fish like that in it. A good saying a friend's father is always telling me, "it's not what you know, but who you know".....although I think knowing something helped you land those fish too.

My PB largemouth is from this lake as well. 7.2lb LM in the fall. I know of a 9lber that came out of here also.

Really nice fish. Fishing where only a few have ventured is always awesome.

I love hearing stories about private lakes with hybrids in them. Glad to see my license fees are going to places I'm not allowed.
Nice largemouth though. Definate slob.

 the hackettstown and pequest hatcheries are not the only hatcheries raising fish in NJ. there are plenty of other commercial hatcheries that private lakes and clubs use to *buy* their fish.
