Decided to change it up today after a a bad day at canistear on sat w/crazy wind in the morning

I went up to Sussex for a hike with the girlfriend. I HAD to bring a rod, knowing that there was a small brook beside the trail. This creek was spring fed and stained from the iron.

I brought with me: My 2ft ice fishing ugly stick, a small gold spinner, license, and pliers-thats it. so i can just throw it all in the backpack.

I fished about 10 pools, some no bigger than 3x3ft, and landed 10 Wild brookies in 1 hour. these fish were verryyyy aggressive.

I had snapped a quick pic of some and released them all of course. No fish was out of the water for more than 10 seconds. biggest fish was around 9"

I went from catching 1 wild trout my whole life to 10 in 1 hour! Awesome day.

Think about what a funny place New Jersey is. You can fish Sussex County in the morning and catch wild Brook Trout, then get in your car and drive 2 hours and get on the Gambler or other head boat in the afternoon, then catch Yellowfin Tuna, Swordfish, and Mahi that night.

Great color on those Brookies !!!

I just relived my youth fishing for brookies in New Hampshire in little brooks with that one. Thanks for the happy flashback. Can picture my grandad with his old metal worm can on his belt like it was yesterday.

Catching a trout is on my five-year old's list and I'd love to make it a brookie, so I may PM you if you don't mind. I'm way too far from Sussex to make it a stomping ground but would really love to find a quiet out of the way place for at least a first brookie experience.

Thanks for posting. I could literally smell the forest and hear the crunch of footsteps on the dirt road again looking at those pics.
