Started trolling at the AP amidst weed, weeds, weeds. Found some marks, dropped the anchor and started chunking/sardining. Had a runoff after 10 minutes that popped the 60 lb leader with too tight drag. The second runoff lasted an hour as everyone took turns on the fish which took two turns around the boat. This time the leader held and we gaffed a feisty 54" Bluefin.
Had to reset the anchor as we were dragging it and when we did the first sardine in the water was engulfed on the way down. This fish seemed like our under at first but shifted into 2nd gear and everyone took turns on this fish also. After 40 minutes we brought our second 51" over in the boat, took pictures and released it. Two minutes before lines in another rod starts singing and abruptly stops with a birdsnest. The good news is 4 fishermen on the boat never went tuna fishing before and are now seasoned "pump and reelers" who are talking about a canyon trip next time. What a blast for these guys!
