So first off this is my buddy's story not mine. A few months back my fishin' buddy had a triple bypass....he's fine now and all good with recovery....but needless to say he has not had the chance to get his boat out this year or do much fishing. Well this week his daughter and grandkids were coming into town and his grandson tells him he can't wait to go on Grandpas' boat fishing again just like last year. So now he's all...man I didn't plan on getting the boat out of winter mode this year but I guess I have to now. So Saturday he goes out and uncovers the boat....and yes needs to evict a township of hornets that moved into his bilge compartment....then completes all of the normal de-winterization tasks. So now he's really "happy" (that was sarcasm)....at least he didn't get stung!

Anyway yesterday he takes his 6 year old grandson out to RV with a bunch of worms ready to do battle with some blue gills, rockfish and what ever else happens to latch on. Along the way he decides to do some drop shotting in 40 feet of water and hooks up to something...hands the rod to his grandson and the fight is on! My buddy said he was fighting it like Tuna...with the rod butt between his legs pulling baclk and reelin' for all he's got. A few furious minutes later a 6lb Largie comes into the boat.... and now it's all worth it!!!

My buddy's been through alot this year with the heart surgery and all so I couldn't be happier that he got the chance to get out there with his grandson. He's a great guy (and Grandpa) a good fisherman and deserves it. And I'm pretty sure his grandson has really got the bug now so add another one to the ranks boys.

Sorry for the long story but thought it might be interesting. Here's the Pic to prove it happened.

What a great story. :)

The bass is half as tall as the little boy.

I bet many NJ bass men haven't caught a 6 pounder. :)

Awesome story... and as the father of a five-year old, I can tell you that smiles like that one are better medicine than any doc could prescribe. Hats off to grandpa for doing the work when he had every opportunity to take a pass. Great post, great pic. Makes me want to wake my boy up early to do a little weekday fishing.
