I am headed down to OC MD for a week. Will have my boat in the water. Only been there one time, a couple years ago, and we didn't do very well targeting summer flounder (fluke).

I fished south of the OC Inlet in the bay, and just north of inlet along the east channel below the bridge and got only shorts and puffer.

Have some kids who would like to catch "a few fluke for dinner" :D

Any advice on some decent fluking, or, bottom fishing within 15-20 miles of the inlet?

Thanks for any help.

We use to go fishing there since 1987 till 2008. We stopped going because NJ has much better summer fishing. The Big Assawoman Bay in OC gets too hot for fluke. Even for crabs. The last few years the only fluke caught were 10-13inches. Off the beach the fluke don't exist.
OC is prime tuna, wahoo, marlin fishing because of all the canyons that are with-in reach. Go to Bahia Marina on 23rd street and the bay, OC, or to West OC and sign up for a tuna charter. There's a nice on the water bar at Bahia Marina called Fishtales where you can eat or have a drink. Kool hang out spot.
There are plenty of clams on the sand bar just outside the marina. It's a big low water area.
We use to go into any lagoon, catch dozens of Norfolk spot on worm and liveline stripers and big weakfish outside and along the south jetty. We hooked the spot thru the nose on a fluke rig. Sinker and a 3-4 foot leader with a 3/0 hook. Only high tide produced. It was game on every tide. That even died out.
OC, Md. is the best vacation spot on the east coast in our opinion. They take care of their visitors big time. But the inshore fishing is horrible. The best you can do is to jump on a party boat in West OC for some seabass fishing if you want to bottom fish. I'm not sure if the season is open down there. Good luck and have a good time on vacation. PM me if you need more info.

There is a neat fishing pier, near the inlet, can't remember it's name, been a few years but it was great fishing early am & pm. Nice spot for youngsters.
Bait shop right there & great information spot. Enjoy O. C.

We stay around 32nd St and I watch the P boats from the balcony...they always anchor up in the same spot so I'm guessing Sea bass, maybe croaker but in all the years watching I've never seen drop and reel action. Have also seen a lot of guys fishing from the beach behind the hotel and have never once seen something caught.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

The OC MD area isn't like NJ - no where near it - when it comes to quantity and quality of inshore fishing.

But will give fluking and sea bass a try. The croakers are fun if they are there - it has been hit and miss the couple times there, but a couple years ago we hit them pretty good, and they fight good on ultra light tackle despite being small.
