I went to Eddie's secret hybrid spot for a little bit this afternoon and caught a hybrid of my own...hybrid esox that is. I caught my first river muskie, and it was also my first ski caught on a topwater. It's a blast watching them explode on top! On my 2nd cast it took a swipe at my bait and it's entire head came out of the water but it missed. On the next cast it nailed the plug. It wasn't that big, only around 30", and after a quick pic it went back in the drink.

Yeah, thank god I had a long pair of pliers with me. Gotta watch out for those chompers...I have 2 gigs tomorrow and can't afford to screw up my fingers!

Lol Dale! I actually targeted them a few weeks ago on Mark's boat too but never got around to posting about it. I caught a few bigger ones that day ;) Thanks for getting me out Mark!

What type of tackle do you use when you musky fish? Rod action/line/lures. I'd love to try it on Greenwood Lake up here.
Awesome fish! Can't imagine it hitting on top water.

I'm not the best guy to ask because I don't target them much open water, I spend a lot of time fishing for pike and muskie through the ice. I was using my carp gear: 11' cabelas predator with 50lb power pro and 80lb floro leader. I hear big bucktails produce a lot of fish, also big jerkbaits and crankbaits. Topwaters are a lot of fun, the one I was using today is about 10"
