Had a couple hours to fish the other day. Knew all of my local spots would look like chocolate milk after the rains, so decided to hit a little community lake and try for a catfish or two. Made a quick stop at the store for some chicken-apple sausages and was on my way.
Got nary a bite until something sucked up my bait and started screaming line off my light spinning setup despite the drag being set very, very tight. Had a helluva fight for a full 15 minutes as I tried to keep the unseen bastard from breaking off my 8-lb test line.
Finally managed to get him close to the dam I was standing on before shimmying him up on land. Turned out to be a big ol' channel cat that beat my prior PB by a solid 10". Measured out to 30" long and an estimated 13-14pounds.
Totally made my night...
