Some nice fish today, especially Ralph's 5 pound pool fish. Finally, as the guy has been busting his butt trying to get this stuff down! Plenty of short action through both tides in several area's. Bait worked better for us once again today.
"PLEASE" bring a medium action rod and some heavier sinkers...I'm begging you! The tangles are ridiculous and can be avoided.
On another note: If you enter the Pool on a Party Boat and the sign on the dock say's "FLUKE" DO NOT EXPECT that a Silver eel, Striped bass, Bluefish or any other edible fish will win the pool.......Do NOT get pissed off and curse out my crew making yourself look like an A Hole in front of your grand child and the rest of the boat. Then, after the guys busting their ass all day with your tangles and taking care of the kid.......STIFF them because you think you were right.
Gotta give Lou,my deckhand a high five for handling the situation with a calm, professional manner. Although he did flip out behind closed doors.!:D
Love when people try to run my business and tell me how it should be done, buy a boat and join the fun my friend.

He can't be a member or he would know the rules. It's not worth the headache to have to deal with these guys. Sounds like a good day otherwise. Tight Lines.

Was this guy fishing with a spin cast reel and holding it upside down??? It's unreal that u have to have those type of discussions or arguments...especially around a kid. Winning the pool (legally) is always fun...but fishing...catching fish...and doing it with ur kids is PRICELESS!!!!

In my experience the boat will usually announce at the start of the trip what species count toward the pool.

In my experience the boat will usually announce at the start of the trip what species count toward the pool. This is a true statement...most party boats will set the rules in the beginning of the trip on the loud speaker. Not everyone knows if it says "Fluke" it means it a Fluke only pool! If this was this guys very first time out ever I can see way he might get pissed. If it's wasn't his first trip he is a sore loser and should know better!

You would think the target species is the only species eligible for the pool, but I've fished on a NY porgy boat where a cocktail blue took the pool. That makes no sense to me whatsoever, but I guess when in Rome...

It's a grey area on alot of PB's. Sign may say bluefish but stripers, albies, bonita or even a small BFT can win. I even saw a snagged drum win once, that was weird. Or a mate hooking a fish and passing the rod to a customer that won with it. But that's a whole other can of worms. Agree with the guy who said it should be announced or maybe printed on the fare ticket as I've seen before.

Every party boat I've ever been on announced the species that count in the pool. And if not, I could see a possible problem.

If more than one species is used for the pool, usually a sign is posted and captain will announce on way out. When fishing multiple species at night all count and is announced at beginning of trip. When sign say Fluke, it's Fluke. When on a boat the captain is in charge. Two hooks in same fish, who's the winner.
The hook that's in the deepest that was ate first. Fifty plus years of fishing party boats and seen it all.:D:D:D:D

You know this "winner" was one of the "special" regulars on the boat. If you caught it blues wouldn't be in the pool.
