Just goes to show that hard work pays off. The lip and I put our time in and we were rewarded with my first ever 10 pounder. Left the dock around 8:30 with the lip. First drop produced several shorts but i made a quick move to east and it was game on. Within a few hours we boxed 8 keepers and i got my first DOORMAT. One of the most exciting moments of my life and one that i will never forget. She was caught on one of the home made bucktails. Pink was her color of choice with a pink grub. Set the hook and felt the headshake of a beast. Yelled for net but still had 30 feet to go lol. AMAZING day on the water with the lip. Lip netted her and as soon as the net hit the deck the hook came out. Good net job Lip. Bad day to not be in a torny lol. On the boga she was just passed the 10 pound mark. Screamed like a little girl lol. We took her home to put on my wall in my room. Can someone please recommend me to a taxidermist that does skin mount, not fiberglass. We are having trouble !

tight lines- Johnny Bucktails

Congrats Johnny! I fished next to you a couple of years ago on Capt John's, now you're in the big leagues.

Might I suggest, in addition to a mount, a nice gyotaku print? I think it's a classier memento of the occasion.

Just goes to show if you put in the time and effort good thinks happen, also great job by the Lip netting it clean before the hook popped!

Now the big question was there enough room in your bed for you and the fish:confused: I know you were keeping a close eye on it! Congrats again little buddy:D

Not to hijack the thread and congrats again Jonny...but I wish there was a way to have one of these fish prints done without the fish. my recent release felt good, but a reminder of the catch would have been nice.

I expect the memory to only be temporary. :p

Awesome fish Johnny! Many of us are still in pursuit of one of these including me. Stick with it and take Capt Dave up on that offer for tuna fishing. More memories of a lifetime to be had. Good luck and catch em up....:D

You guys are great. Thank you all very very much. Means a lot to me when i see all the people that care. Was not expecting all those comments !! I shared all the comments with the lip and it brought a huge smile to his face as i read them to him. He is so proud of me. Like you guys said persistance pays off and it sure did. Thanks you all once again and for all of the suggestions to tax's. jenny lee sportfishing- what an offer brotha, might have to take you up on that offer ahahaha. Thank you so much for that. I have never been offshore but i hear its a totally different ball game. Guess i got to work my way out there.

Johny not to try to change your mind but why would you not want a fiberglass replica. It will look the same the day you got it and 20-30 years down the road minus some minor fading, but will still look great. I have never seen a skin mount over 10-15 yrs old that has not seen the affect of time.

You might want to reconsider a fiberglass replica If so I had work done by these guys and all I can say it they are first class operation and will use them for any and all taxidermy

You cant point to fiberglass or a print on the wall and say "That's the fish I caught", can you?

Old School is good. They have better materials these days than 20 years ago so go for it. The skin mount will look awesome 50 years from now

hell of a fish kid! I got a wolfish skin mount when i was 13 & that has begun to fade dunno if the fiberglass holds up any better but whatever you decide to do congratulations & WAY TO SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on truly a well deserved and yet infrequent achievement. Hard work pays off. Beautiful fish
I have to echo others who stated that you should take Capt Dave (Jenny Lee) up on a huge (generous) offer. You just don't get that kind of offer from a renowned Tuna Capt that often if ever in life.

If you don't I will lose 110 lbs , get a Johnny Bucktails mask and go in your place:D

Keep up the good work

i am truly honored to receive an offer like that.

We do a lot of tournaments as long as they are local. I heard that we would have one the elks tourney with my fish. Going with a fiberglass mount of the fish i believe. We might wait until this season is over though. Not sure what we are going to do. Taking our time to make sure we make the right decision. Thank you all once again !
