Had Chris, Dave, Scott, Bill, and Jon aboard for a mixed FTYP/Ling trip yesterday (late by 1 day, sorry for the late report!
Took the bait from some reports and ran up north. Found little life, just some shorts, still loads of trash fish, and one keeper. Ran all over trying to find a bite, never found it. By 10:30 I asked the guys if they wanted to go catch some ling, and they obliged, and off we went out to the east.
First wreck I wanted to fish 10 + miles away had a boat on it, the second was picked over as we had just a couple of bites, and finally the third, another 13 miles southeast and waaaay out in the deep wasn't occupied so we got set up and had some nice fat ling right away. That didn't last as some current was coming on, so we dropped the hook and had a pick going for a few minutes, but that waned to nothing as a strong S current really got the fish shut off. Jon also boated a legit 3# flounder there that was VERY lucky.
So we ran back inshore to finish up fluking, and fished a few hills to catch a few more shorts but that was it.
Wasn't our day. Had a basket full of ling and the one keeper fluke - the guys had nice sacks of fillets but for such a beautiful day the results were not what I wanted!
