My younger brother is heading out on a friends boat from Pt Pleasant this weekend for some Fluking, so I will be taking a ride to Dick's to pick him up some goodies. I've read the Gulp Swimming Mullets seem to be killer in the 4" size, so I will be grabbing him some, along with the traditional bottom bait rigs I've used in the past. How heavy of a bucktail should I rig the Gulp with? I obviously will pick him up a few different sizes for different possible conditions out there. Would a medium action spinning setup with 20lb PowerPro be sufficient? 100% of my jigging is done in freshwater for Walleye and Crappie, so please excuse my "newbness"! Thanks guys!

The lighter the better, might I say: there are plenty of sponsors that have what you need... Anyways in the ocean the lighter the better. Gonna be breezy tomorrow so 3oz is a good start, but I would get some 4&6 oz hate going that heavy but sometimes it's needed especially if you go deeper. White is my favorite color, then chartreuse , then pink, which seems to be the color lately. Pick up a few sabiki rigs for some live snapper to put in the well you can each keep 15 and a live snapper 2' behind a jig is a flounder pounder. Ill be out as well, gimme a ring if ya want ill give ya whatever intel we have with the bite, most likely be on sea girt reef with some clams as well for some sea biscuits

You sir are the man. I appreciate the great info. I'm not sure what their plan is yet besides "Pt Pleasant", "nice boat" and "fluke". I will forward him your info to get the scoop.

I would prefer to support a forums vendor, but unfortunately I am up here in shopping mall city, aka North Jersey. If I was heading out with him, I'd have no problems hitting up one of them on the way down :) .

bring 3/4-8oz with ya i like to fish a 3-6 on the botom and a smaller one 6 -12inches above it. glow, white, chartreuse usually my top picks. 20lb braid is fine just use a mono leader. usually i get away with 4oz on my spinning rod but always have a heavier rod with me in case i gotta go big!

The gulp is great yet the last two days the white is working best. In fact I've switched to using a single squid strip in place of the gulp and the fatties have been hammering it. I also prefer the white jig with white skirt and the lighter the better.
