Hey guys I'm to be heading down to belmar tomorrow to try my luck at some fluking. I normally drag bait but I see a lot more fluke coming over the rail from people bucktailing. What ounce jig should I bring and any tips or techniques would be much appreciate. Thanks

2 to 4 oz spros will get ya by in most conditions. Don't forget to add a teaser hook about 10-12 inches above the bucktail and throw a chartreuce gulp on it. At times the teaser will get more attention than the bucktail.

Try to get the bow where you can cast away from the other rigs.

I would bring 1 to 6 oz jigs but the lighter , the better action you will get.

How do you recommend I and a teaser hook?

I use a 2oz bucktail on the bottom and a 3/8 bucktail on the drop loop with gulp on both. Just keep it on the bottom and always bouncing. :D

One more question. How far do you bounce your jig off the bottom?

Generally small bounces just keep it moving. you want to keep it out of the rocks. 1-6 oz tails and 4-6" gulps i like pearl chartruese and pink shine. Make sure u have plenty of both. 7/0 baitholder for the teaser no not overkill at all shorts can and will swallow it so. And its especially important when the drift is slow to cast away from the boat and work it back you will get alot more bites this way.

Its a pain to do sometimes but adding a stinger hook to the buck, increases the hook ups but alot of times thats the smaller ones

X2, especially if you are using bigger bucktails with oversized hooks, like 4 oz spros.

if guys are fishing raritan they may use less OZ size too, something to consider ocean currents may be a bit stronger, I usullay need 4 to 6 out front

Ivy been reading the reports out of belmar and it seems like the drift has been pretty slow. Does that mean the current is pretty slow or will currents be strong towards the bottom?

If the wind is less then 10, you might be able to get away with 3 to 4 oz or like someone said cast ahead of the drift with small ones.

I forget if anyone said this but those big old gulp curly tail grubs are great for big flatties as the teaser. shockingly 15 inchers will take them too
