Mike would go to the ends of the earth for me as I would have for him..... so many fun moments this guy brought into my life I cant list them all......
I have SO MUCH MORE TO SAY but I really cant stop the tears and I am so ****ing heart broken over this its unreal and so ****ing difficult.....
I would ask people not to speculate at this time as to exactly what happned and to respect his family who are DEVISTATED as I am....
My prayers go out to Lady Di, Mick, Kimberly and the rest of his family....... MR. WELLS..... YOU ARE UNREPLACEABLE AND EVERYTIME I LOOK TO THE BOW OF TNT I WILL SHEAD A TEAR...... CANT BELIEVE YOU ARE GONE... LUV U MAN....

Just horrible news. Fishermen and people in general everywhere have lost a great guy. I had reached out often to Mike for advise when running fishing trips and he was always there with a knowledgeable response and then one which only he could deliver that made me laugh for days.
1 Example: "you are being too nice, you have to insult them and then they will come out just to prove you wrong"
My sincere condolences to his family and BB. He will be truly missed.

So Sorry for your loss Tom. I know how tight you guys were and I know you're devastated.
I've known Mike for the better part of 14 years, and having fished with him on many occasions (both on my boat and on others' boats) Mike was simply a great guy, who was a hall of fame ball buster - he had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. Over the last couple of years we haven't talked much, but I would occasionally get a text, PM, or phone call - it was always something that made me laugh. That was Mike.
When I got the text and call this morning Tom I was in shock - I simply couldn't believe it. I'm numb, still in shock, and am devastated.
He did a hell of a lot for this website - he will be missed by all here. He also did a lot for many of our businesses, and made countless friends from simply being "out there" and not always just behind the computer screen.
Prayers go out for him, and for his family. For Tom and his other close friends, prayers and thoughts go out to you as well.
RIP Mike :( :( :(

Tom,
No way to understand your loss and feelings at this news. He was your right half during fishing trips and was a friend to everyone. I only knew him for a few years but you could call him anytime and he was there for you. An enormous loss to the fishing community, his family and his dogs! I can see him in his truck with the dogs like it was yesterday.
My prayers to his family, all his friends and those that he influenced.
Mike, don't know what else to say, rest in peace......

I just saw him little while ago with his normal passengers a bloodhound and two huskies. I'll never go out fishing again and not think about Lab. As many of you said he had a hard outer shell but a heart of gold who would give you the shirt off his back.
I can't believe he's gone, it's like a nightmare...he was just so full of life!!!!
I was lucky enough to see him Easter morning when he brought his 4 dogs by the house and we took our dogs for a run. God I know those dogs are going to miss him as much as we do.

I'm sure that many of you have better stories about mike, but the one that sticks out in my mind was after I got skunked on the monger blackfishing, I had barely made it out of the parking lot without a phone call from mike: "Just wait until I get back to my computer....this is gonna be all over NJfishing.com!" Mike could bust balls with the best of them, that's for damn sure. Fair winds, following seas, and center ice seats up there.

Haven't seen LAB in quite some time, but we wet many a line together over the years...he was a great guy, and his quick wit always made the slow drifts seem to go just a bit faster...RIP my friend
Heard the news earlier today and could not believe it. Just got home and read through all 11 pages. It is obvious that Mike made a huge impression to those who knew him by the out pour of love for him. Besides all the laughs and trips what I will miss most was his huge heart and acts of kindness. I had just contacted him on Friday about a trip but he had plans to go to devils game on that day. That was just a few days ago and now he is gone. Totally devastated as it has been a tough 2 months dealing with health issues with parents and now the loss of 2 friends in the past 2 weeks.
Tom I feel your pain as I also lost my best friend who i was friends with since 3rd grade 2 weeks ago after a 20 month battle with brain cancer. Spent the last 2 weeks with him taking care of him as he could not function anymore.
Will never understand why bad things happen to good people. I had picked up an old harnell rod with wood handle that i knew Mike would have loved over the winter. I was planning to get it rebuilt and was going to present it to him as a gift on behalf of njfishing members for all his time and hard work in putting together the PUOSU over the past few years. Who could have imagined that he would not be with us for me to present him this rod.
My prayers are with his friends and family. Please keep me in mind if any of his friends and family need ANYTHING

Tom I feel your pain as I also lost my best friend 2 weeks ago after a 20 month battle with brain cancer. Spent the last 2 weeks with him taking care of him as he could not function anymore.
Will never understand why bad things happen to good people. My prayers are with his friends and family. Please keep me in mind if any of his friends and family need ANYTHING

When storm gales blow and shake my soul
And I am lost at sea,
Then comes a light that shines so bright
A beacon sent to me
When tattered sails are useless
And Darkness covers me,
An unseen hand takes o’er the helm
And steers me round alee.
And as the first star of the night
Shines through so vividly,
My bounty lies in His good Grace
Blessed by the Trinity.

Mike ALWAYS had a smile and a tale to tell. Not only did he share his love of fishing, but was quite the PACK LEADER to his dawgs.
Mike would often catch me airing and doing yard work w/ my crew at the park near his house, never interrupting and always appreciative of the dog work.
From my PACK to yours Mr Wells, we will see you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge

I’m still reeling from the loss of Mike like most everyone who knew him….
Unlike some nondescript people you may have encountered here or there, chances are if you were ever within 100 yards of him, he’d be the one person in the crowd you’d remember. He was one of those rare people who had a larger than life personality, never held anything back and was the life of the party. If you look closely at all the pictures here you will notice one thing….Everyone he was pictured with had a smile on their face. He had that sort of effect on people and I would bet just before any of those pictures, he’d said or done something to earn that smile. Never a dull moment around Mike and this is what made being around him so much fun.
Mike was amongst a handful of the original cast and crew of NJfishing.com. Although many of us have lost touch with one and other over the years, this news brought back up a lot of those memories for me and others. Over the last several hours I’ve been in touch with many of them, some of which I haven’t talked to in years. A bitter sweet reminder of how precious friendships are and how you never know when your number is going to be called.
Not sure what regrets Mike may have had when his time came but I think not many. Here is a guy who you knew exactly where you stood with, gave more then he got, cared deeply for others and rarely missed an opportunity to bust balls in an endearing way only Mike could get away with.
Things are certainly never going to be the same around here without him. People like Mike leave voids in our lives that are difficult to fill. Like a ship, they also leave wakes behind them that are felt by everyone they’ve touched and are more pronounced to those closest to him.
My heart and prayers go out to his family and those who were closest to him. A one of a kind person who’s void is deep and wakes are steep.
Rest in peace Mike…. We reluctantly commit you to our father in heaven. I’ m sure He will appreciate your wit and reward you for the kindness you gave so abundantly during you time here with us.
As Buckshot said “ The world is not as nice a place as it was yesterday”. Our loss here on earth but I’m sure they are celebrating your arrival in heaven. Things are never going to be the same up there either.
Very sad. Condolences to family and friends. May he RIP.

My deepest condolences to Mike Well's family and friends.
I did not know Mike very well ... but a number of years ago I had my Dad and my 3 young triplet sons out on the Gambler for a Fluke trip. One of my sons got very seasick and it was also very hot out.
Mike got some ice in a bag ... cleared a spot on the shady side of the boat .... grabbed a cold ginger ale and some preetzels and really helped him get through it ....
Super nice of him .. and no one asked ... he just offered ...... his actions speak loudly about his character......
He will be sorely missed ..... by all that knew him well .. or ever had the pleasure to make his aquaintance .....
RIP Mike.......

My condolences to family and friends. Mike was such an icon to the fishing industry. His devilish laugh was one of a kind and will be truly missed around the docks as well as out on the water. My hart goes out to the TNT team as it was always a fun time fishing next to them and hearing the bow monkey scream, LOL. If anyone knew LAB, I can only say Stelli said it best, as he was like a father to so many of us and i know he will be watching and laughing from above. One day when your off by yourself on the water, listen and I'm sure we will all hear him laughing from above.....RIP, LAB you were loved by all and will never be forgotten as you have left your mark in everyone's hart!

One of the fondest times for me was when Mike remembered my and my son Stephen's name one day in 7-11 on Broadway AND talked to me like we were old friends, I barely knew him. Mike was the one who got me started with NJFishing. He insisted that I got on board. I was a reluctant, non-computer guy who barely knew how to work the key board. Thankfully, he did not give up on me --basically taking me step-by step through the process until I got it.
He always had an air of confidence about him, had a great sense of humor and wouldn't let you off the hook if he thought you were out of line.
I can't believe he's gone. He truly will be missed.

The Fisherman's Prayer
by Thomas Keats
When far from land on the stormy sea
There are times when my boat seems frail to me
Where the rising wind and the monstrous waves
Have sent many souls to their watery graves
When the fog shuts down and blacks out the shore
And the heavy seas on the rocks do roar
Where the hidden shoal and the tricky tide
Could mean my doom without a guide
In times like this our hearts sometime fail
And we fear we'll be lost in the stormy gale
Our thoughts go back to our friends on shore
And loved ones whom we'll probably see no more
But then at last there is a light
Shining through the gloom like a beacon bright
It is our faith in Our Lord we see
Who rules the raging of the sea
Our thoughts go back to the story true
Of Our Lord who protects His disciples crew
Who were fishermen just like me
And we follow their tradition of the sea
So now all fishermen be of good cheer
And always remember Your Lord is near
The word of a hymn which can give courage to thee
Are "Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me".
Fair Seas Mike, your spirit has touched many!

I'm a member here because of Michael TELLING me to check out this website several years ago in Michael's way. He even got me into one of Gerry's Christmas poems one year. So I remember all that history Gerry has spoken of.
Like all of you, I can't believe this has happened. When God created Michael, he must have said one is enough. This one is too special to duplicate.
He could make you feel better on a bad day and even better on a good day; and for all the good things he did for other people, he was the type to do it and not brag about it.
I've never known anyone who was the over the top "ball buster" you all call him and at the same time have the kindest heart all wrapped into one.
It has been a privilege to be his friend and have his friendship.
We all benefited from knowing Michael; but he would say you guys added an enormous amount of happiness to his life.

He always had an air of confidence about him, had a great sense of humor and wouldn't let you off the hook if he thought you were out of line.
Isn't that the truth.... He didn't care if what he said made you at odds with him, his itentions were always genuine. He simply wanted the best for everyone, to right wrongs and he called them like he saw them.
Being together for almost 15 years working on this site, it was inevitable that Mike and I had a few brushes between us. Occationally a few poeple questioned my allegiance towards him. It was never a question in my mind because deep down I knew his heart was in the right place.

First for the Wells Family. I am truly sorry for your loss. May the Four Winds deliver Mr. Wells safely home.
For Tom. Mike had passion for fishing. For people like us, its not a sport. Its part of our lives. If you are lucky enough to have your father being part of it and teaching you. Or sharing the times on the water with a good friend. That is so special. The two of you had fun just sharing the times on the water together. You will have those memories for the rest of your life. Hold those memories close to your heart and fish on. Mike would want you to.
To Gerry. Mike was your right hand man on this site. He had passion for this site. I am sorry for your loss as well.
May God Bless you all.

Still having a hard time wrapping my mind around this pointless act of violence over what....money?
Everyone who knew him more than 10 minutes had a problem with him at some point, but the guy never backed down and handled it like a man every time. You've got to respect that!
Now I'm looking at some of the pics of him and the trips he put together and more importantly the PEOPLE he put together. He got the fact it wasn't just the fish in the boat, but the good times to be had on the water.
These are some big shoes to fill from such a little guy....and I don't think I'll ever know anyone quite like him again.

WOW! I am still numb after hearing the news. Quick story on how I met Mike. I was new to the board and asked for some info on getting a crab tote. He IM'ed me and gave me his address and told me to take what I needed as there were a few at his house. I could not believe the guy never met me didn't know me from a whole in the wall and opened up his own fishing gear to me. Once I got there he happened to be home, and we shot the shit for quite a bit. I tried to offer him some cash for the 2 totes he was giving me but refused to take anything!! I insisted he took one of my company hoodies and that he did. What a great warm hearted guy, never mind his fishing skillz!! As time had gone on He became a Devils season ticket holder, as I have been one for many years. We would always run into each other during the games, as it actually became a ritual. When we were in the playoffs last year and needed a goal in an overtime game in the first round we hooked up, and he gave me some crazy azz hand shake and said now we will score and goal! And that we did. So it became something we would meet up to do whaen we needed one. Them he moved his seats into my section this year, so we would see each other at all of the games. I will truly miss him, and would like to offer my condolences and prayers to Mick and the rest of Mike's family! RIP Mike my lil buddy!
