Recently fished a NY boat.
As you may or may not know SEABASS is OUT OF SEASON.
Fluke limit 4
I proceed to catch and release 6 nice keeper seabass.
Two boat regulars catch 5 & 7 FLUKE. Both are over limit.
I was told by CAPT. to return SEABASS, BUT HE NEVER TOLD regulars to throw back fish OVER THE LIMIT!
Whats your thoughts???
Any difference?????

They where using heavy enough sinkers and maybe you weren't I think thats why they caught fluke and you caught sea bass lol two wrongs don't make a right and if it bothered that much open or mouth when it happened in New York not after the fact on NJfishing.com

Some pb will tell people to keep fishing until there is a boat limit , not so much a man limit. If they were ethical anglers they would have followed the man limit. For example if a group of four friends fish together and share a cooler then they will usually fish until that cooler has a four man limit regardless of which angler is catching more. That I dont have a problem with. One night years ago I was on a night pb for stripers and we absolutely crushed them, not a huge fan of killing stripers, me and my two friends were releasing every fish when the captain says" reel em up we have a boat limit, we are done". I have a problem with a trip ending two hours early because people feel the need to keep more than their limit.

Sounds like you need to find different boats. Talk with your feet.

Did you use circle hooks after you got your limit of bass?

KEEP YOUR LEGAL LIMIT....RETURN THE REST! Always play by the current rules despite advice of others.

Ya never know when the boat will be boarded by F & G so play it safe

Worry about yourself and screw everyone else - find a different boat also

As long as I am in compliance everyone else could go scratch

I was out on a sea bass trip this week and caught a 3 to 4 lb flounder - that's right a flounder - not a fluke It is my absolute favorite fish in the world to catch and eat . It killed me and I cursed it but I threw it back .

Just my 2 cents - do whatever you are comfortable with

Good Luck

Honestly didnt know about circle hooks back then, but they are not necessary if you know when to set the hook.;)
No fish I caught were harmed or kept . I dont have a problem with people keeping them, I will keep them occasionally if i feel the desire to eat them. Its the disregard for bag limits that bothers me.

HOOKEM N COOKEM!
