Capt Kenny and super-deckhand Jimmy had Mark's crew from N. Carolina (and NJ) on board today to do a split bass & bottom trip.
They got bait early just N of SRI, and took them a bit further to the south where a good bite happened yesterday afternoon and where Kenny read them on the ride up. No bites, not even a skinned bunker but the readings at times were decent. ???
After 2 hours of watching bunker swim around in circles the guys went off to some rough bottom in 65-80' and got the rods bending with seabass and ling. The crew had a very good pick of seabass and ling, as well as one jumbo winter flounder of 18" and a few pout (which were both released). Some of the bass were real nice knuckleheads of 2-3#, and a few of the ling were of the monster sewer trout variety :) Most of the fish were taken on the drift, but once they got a real good pick going Kenny pout the hook out and walloped them until the guys had enough.
Around 1PM they went back to bassing - again that was a hack job.
Overall the bottom fishing was excellent - the guys boated well over 100 seabass with ~75 making it to the box, most being over 13" as well as a dozen ling and the released flounder and pout. No cod or blackfish today. Bass fishing again was disappointing.
Back at it Saturday!
