View Full Version : LM with fresh wound but the same location

Many of LM I catch lately had similar fresh wound - round shaped - near the tail. What do you make of this? Maybe mating scar? or some sort of disease?

I think you should send an email to F&G along with the pics and the lake location you r fishing at. To me they look like lamprey wounds, you see the same thing on the salmon and similar species on lake ontario, but I have no idea if they could even live in waters down here. But thats the same type of scar/wound I have seen up there

We have Lamprey in the beautiful Delaware River. I'm not sure where else they can be found in NJ.

Red, shallow ulcers are a clinical sign of any number of infective agents. For example, Mycobacteriosis can present itself as ulcerative wounds like that.

ive seen lamprey in the delaware and in the raritan rivers

The last episode of river monsters showed images of fish with the same markings and it was lamprey's.
