View Full Version : Pond in Bridgewater
Drop the Bass

Hey guys, I have this pond near my house and I was wondering if there could potentially be anything in there. If anyone lives in Bridgewater, then it is a pond near a Wegmans.
If you search for "Brokaw Court, Bridgewater Township, NJ" on Google Maps, you can see that there is a pond there. Do you think that there could potentially be any fish in there? Has anybody ever seen or even fished there?
If not, then where are some good places to go fishing? I mainly fish for bass, but also sometimes fish for trout. Spooky Brook Pond has been alright for me, but I was just wondering if there were any more ponds located within 30-45 minutes of Bridgewater, NJ.
Thanks!

If it's not private, why not just give it a shot? Worst case you catch a skunking and don't fish it again :p .
Are you looking for bodies of water to fish from land or do you own a boat/kayak/canoe?

Sorry I don't know about the pond, although I know and love the Wegmans. I agree with Skunk City try it out, can't hurt.
I don't know how either of these are but a little west of you there is Round Valley Reservoir:

Fishing is so so there...You have to ask permission to fish it....Ask one of the ppl on Pally ct....If you get a NO , do not fish it....Before i asked permission , i was ticketed for fishing there...Once i asked permission it was ok....They can still chase you out of there but if you have permission they will not ticket you....Hope this helps.....If your not a ppl person, i would'nt bother....Like i said the fishing is so so....Its been about five yrs since i've fished it....Moved on to better places

I don't have a boat/kayak/canoe. I can only fish from the shore. I've tried Round Valley Reservoir, but I don't know any good places to fish from the shore there. If you have any good shore fishing spots at Round Valley Reservoir, then that would be great.

RV is a big place and the fish are constantly on the move...One spot is usually as good as the next....The trick with RV is putting your time in and being patient....

Fishing the rocks near the Boat Launch can be pretty good. I've had some success there. I forget if they changed it but you can pay the daily entrance fee at the Main entrance, then drive over to the Boat Launch and go through the gate past the rocks. Walk the shoreline and look for the areas where it gets deep pretty quickly, there are usually a bunch of smallmouth there that can be caught pretty easily.
From the looks of it you are also pretty close to the Raritan on River Road right there...Drive around and keep your eyes peeled for a white sign posted on trees. Those are the spots they stock.
Also looks like Washington Valley Reservoir is a few miles east of you. I've heard a bunch of people rave about that spot early in the season.
Good luck!

I live in bridgewater too. I personally like spooky brook and am usually very successful there. But I've heard it becomes choked mid summer making it almost impossible to fish there. I like Lake Creighton in middlesex since it is near my house, about 10 minutes from wegmans I would think. I catch mainly Sunnies but I have caught bass and see big cats and carps jumping out of the water. I also heard Washington Valley is good. I've fished there once in the fall and was successful.

As long as we're suggesting bodies of water along the Route 78 corridor, there's always Surprise lake in the Watchung Reservation. (I believe you take exit 44 off of Rt. 78)
I fished in early April of this year. I only caught sunfish, but I saw a lot of small bass swimming around in there. There are also a lot of pickerel and bullheads.

Washington Valley is an ok spot, but it gets really weedy really fast. The spots that are fishable from shore typically get pounded by the bucket brigade, but if you walk all the way around to the back of the reservoir near chimney rock rd you'll do fine. I normally do well with a frog skipping it along the banks.

I sometimes go down to the Raritan River in the Bedminster area. I've only ever caught Rainbows there, never any other kinds. Where else would be a good place to fish along the Raritan River and where?

if you park in the boat launch/fishing parking area there are no fees, you just need to display a copy of your fishing license on your dashboard. you can access the main reservoir here and between labor day and memorial day, also the recreation lake.
between memorial day and labor day, those gates on the dam are closed, so if you want to fish the rec lake, then you have to go in the main entrance for the "round valley recreation area" (the entrance for swimming/bbq/launching boats to camp) and pay the fee.
