One of my colleague mentiomed this at work today. Sad news. Longtime captain, Stian Stiansen, 85, killed after fishing boat capsized near Shinnecock inlet on their way back by a rouge wave...One survivor was able to grab a floating device.

Just a reminder when you have a wicked tide vs wind going on, inlet can be hell.

I've seen USCG 25' Safe Boats go near vertical climbing over a 15' roller getting out of Shark River Inlet.

You have to read the seas & plan it before you make the move. And hope nothing fails you. Inlets can be very hairy and much worse than open water. Steering with both throttle action and the wheel anticipating what's next. It is hairy.

Wonder what happened? Big following seas and engine failure? Try to learn what went wrong and try to avoid it yourself. Sadly it's too late for this guy.

Agreed although these things are tragedies, its a shame you never hear about the details so others can learn from them. Its the same with scuba diving, people unfortunately die and the details get swept under the mat and no one ever learns the truth and is able to learn from the situations and made away of what to look and watch for...
