A picture like the one above won't qualify...

Has to be full length pic of Pike with wieght and anglers face shot with Pike...

I don't think the measurement really matters if were goin for weight. If someone catches a short fatty that weighs more than a skinny 30" it still wins right?

The measurement can help verify the weight of the BEAST. Thank Skunk!

That's gonna be tricky solo fishing on a kayak, but I'll do my best to figure something out.

That sounds about right. Easiest way to take a measurement photo riding solo in the a kayak is to lay the fish across your lap and hold the camera up as high as you can. Besides having a camera mounted somewhere with an autotimer, its pretty much impossible any other way lol.

Let me clarify...

1. Weight wins (heaviest Pike regardless of length)

2. Need to have full pic of the Pike or as much as humanly possible.

3. Need to have a pic with verifiable face shot with pike and weight shot <or> a pic with face and pike along with another pic of pike and weight (2 pics).

I'm looking to get out either tomorrow or Wednesday evening for yak float on the upper Passaic somewhere. Would anyone want to meet up for a 2 vehicle put in/take out-one way trip? I could get to most of the typical launch spots at 5:15ish. I have a stretch in mind but would be totally open to suggestions.

It would be good to have someone else there to take my picture with the winning fish! :D
PM me...

Hit the river today today and lost 3! . Nice to see there starting to hit again after a long drought. I definitely figured the pattern out today which is always something I find to be a huge win in my book. I probably should keep a log book but I don't have the patience for that. Ill be getting my entry in hopefully Thursday after work to break this curse I have all of a sudden.

the faceshot isn't reasonble to expect from kayak fishermen wrestling with a large pike... not everybody has a gopro mounted to their kayak.

as long as the picture includes something that identifies it as yours and not some pic off the internet (your arm with your tattoo/scars/watch on it, the fish is sitting on your legs on your lap in your boat, etc) it's fine. this is a little 15 man thing where we all have met each other, not some big open tournament with 1000 people competing. if we suspect anyone of cheating, we'll just keel haul them at the next M&G

I just assumed verifiable face shot meant something recognizable on the person such as a face, a tattoo, scar on arm, bow of kayak of the angler that has something uniquely identifiable, etc....

Im personally still reeling from our NJfishing Pike gathering a few weeks ago
I can not believe I did not a catch a Pike in the Garfield area.. that was the first time that I have ever been skunked going for Pike in that area.... I am so glad that no one else caught a Pike because I don't think I my ego could have handled getting skunked:eek: but since no one else caught one I knew it wasn't me sucking as an angler:cool:

I met up with NJBassman and his 2 sons this evening for the swing and miss. The river was still slightly over bank, heavily stained at around 58 degrees.

Despite the skunk it was great meeting new people on a stretch of the river I never paddled. Cant wait to get back out there!

The river has to warm up and lower. Best action last year was on the warmest days (between July 1st and mid-August - especially evenings) and when it was under 4'/40cfs(chatham), 12'/300cfs(fairfield) or 1'/200cfs(little falls). Check 'dem gauges!. Sure you may pick up a few here and there in 'hotspots' but overall until the entire watershed(passaic/rockaway/whippany/pompton) has stable temps around/above 70F, its going to be little reward for max effort. I have yet to even see sunfish let alone a pike in the river this year - only a few carp. Fish breaking water - either bass or pike - chasing baitfish is the best indicator of activity.

Got out for an hour and a half after work. Time was limited so I stayed in one spot and went at it. After a half hour or so I hooked into my first one. Knew it wasn't huge but maybe enough. Weighed in at 2.97#. Threw him back and kept goin.

Soon after I got a harder strike and felt some nice pull. Got em in and weighed em up...........

Thanx for the kind words guy(s), lol. Thought I'd post my weigh in routine to possibly save some fish. I'd imagine a bunch of weigh ins happening in the next 2 weeks..........

Once I got em in close, "play em" out for a sec to tire em out, makes it easier to handle them. At this point, get their head out of the water. Then, gently work the hook of the scale into the gill plate. Be sure not to make contact with the gills. The gill plate covers a lot more than the gills so it should be easy provided the fish is not going nuts ( see step 1, lol). At this point, raise fish up for another photo (depending on lure used and amount of hooks). Since its artificials only, try to get the lure in the pic. If not, lay the fish down next to the tape with the lure attached. Then, without gettin the fish sandy, muddy, raise it up for a full body shot.

Take a couple to make sure you got it in and release. Total of less than 1/2 mins tops. Good luck out there.....................

I had a nice pike blow up on a topwater yesterday but go figure he missed it which has been my trend the past two weeks. The one time I get a good hook set (with a stinger attached) the fish decided to take me under some submerged trees and I lost it. Fish was probably around 34ish inches and fat. I hit the same area for 3 more days in hopes he was still lurking the area but to no avail. Ill be taking the yak out hopefully sometime this week maybe to dig a few toothy critters out of hiding.

Side note: Eddie you've been killin' with all these great photos I've seen I'm definitely jealous haha.

You need to change the way you fish. Get a fresh BANKER, cut out two big filets with scales on, put one filet on a big hook with a float and cast it very far, work it slowly and you going to get them!

Found some real nice lookin spots but nothin biting. Funny thing is, after gettin back and checkin on maps, I don't think I was even on the river the whole time, lol. Must have wandered at least 1/2 mile of the river into flood waters. Just couldn't tell what was the main river and what was flooding. I'm def going back there when the conditions are better.

Sunday was all set to have my first pike-a-thon day of the year figuring the warm air would have them active. Headed upstream to lower water and -shockingly - found the parking area empty. This was strange. Anyhow I quickly got ready throwing on the waders and headed off down a trail along the river. Within a few minutes I realized why nobody was there: mosquitoes - swarms of them. With all the stagnant puddles and nearby swamps near the river, it was a great breeding spot for them. Anyhow, I lasted for about 20 minutes before running out of there. Went up to the Chatham-Berkeley Hgts areas and found less mosquitoes but no pike. A few sunnies and bass was about it. River is probably going to be a mess again this so no piking for me until the skeeters are gone and the river is low.

First Pike was an average 24 inches. Kept casting and casting and finally hooked a 36.5 inch BEAST. I had to get dirty and wet to land this fish in the tree and root filled waters of the Passaic. What a thrill! Fish weighed 10 lbs 5 oz. WHOOOOO-HOOOOO!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D

....... Ok, got out for a bit tonight. Not expecting much, hit my first spot. Throwin the spinnerbait, snagged it up but pulled it loose. Made note of a stress spot on the line but set it down and threw my other rig. Nothin........

Moved on to spot 2 and started throwin a crankbait. Picked up a giant sunny, lol........

Nothin doin there so I moved on to spot 3......

First cast with the .spinnerbait was sh!tty so I started burnin it back it. Look up just in time to see a giant swirl bhind it. Ok, kept the fan casts goin...... First cast back in the same area BAMM. Go to set the hook and the line breaks without snapping. F#&k!!!!!!!

Then as an added insult to injury, as I look back, the fish jumps out of the water with a head shake tryin to shake the lure loose!! Not only did I loose a spinnerbait, I got to see the full size of the head of an easy 7-9# pike givin me the finger as he swam off.........

OUCH!!!!

Ill give it one more go tomorrow and try to find that gator I caught over the winter. Nice job huntin em down eddie all real nice fish. After seeing that last one I'm not even gonna post the 6 and change one I caught lol. Its kinda funny how literally the river turned off for about 3 weeks or so then all of a sudden I'm catching them again (or should I say landing them haha). Let's end this one with a bang so we can set up the next event!

Contest is over at 8 pm tomorrow night guys. Still time left to get a few more monsters on the thread. Nice fish Catfish! But you have monster Pike in beautiful union county. :D Hitting it hard again in the morning to try to get the 40 incher that followed my lure the last couple times out. She just won't commit, big old female with all kinds of war wounds on her body. WHOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!! TIGHT LINEZ!!! THANX GUYS!!!:D

FASTEDDIE29!!!! WInner of PIKE-A-THON 2013!!! Biggest Pike came in at 36.5 inches and 10.5 pounds. Thanks to all the participants who gave it hell on the Passaic in some crappy conditions. If I run into any of you guys in a bar or somewhere, I'll gladly buy you a beer. Lets do it again next year, just not during a Carp orgy. TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D

Ive only managed to get out and fish two times during this contest... the day we had the meet and greet and once a few weeks later.... The weather, river conditions and my schedule just didn't allow me to get out and fish at all..... Oh well... congrats Eddie....

Thanx again fellas. Hopefully next years PIKE-A-THON will be bigger and better. It will probably be a 2 day contest and be held on a Saturday and Sunday in June. Bigger entry fee, bigger cash prize. Thanx again to all the participants. TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D

Congrats Eddie! I only got out 2 times since the "meet n' greet". No doubt timing good days with the few good river condition days was the key to putting together a productive session. Eddie nailed it! A few other decent fish from others as well.
Looking forward to the summer's reports!

We could do it the easy way at LH or....wait for it....the hard way....wait for it....at MONKSVILLE! I almost prefer Monks for it, just to see the varying ways guys have to slay a Skunk lol. On the other hand, can everyone's ego handle another meet and greet skunking??? Input?

I would do a 3 day IRON MAN fish till you drop Fri-Sun M&G at Skunksville, winner takes all. LH this time of year can be dangerous at best for a neophite, and 27 ft cabin cruisers going by.
That's my $0.02
