Got a chance today and get out to break in Roy's new boat, a 25' Contender, for some stripers. I tagged along with Roy Sr and Todd C. Fished off the Hook with many others and after getting setup we had a couple of missed runoffs before Todd landed the first keeper, nice fish around 32" After that a few shorts and a couple of keepers, then the dreaded south wind continued to pick up.

We stuck it out at the same spot through the change of tide but then we had wind against tide. It sucked. The surprise of the day came around noon time when my clam kept getting smacked but no runoff. WTF I thought as we had a few skates also today. Finally hooked up and what seemed to be a good fight on my light rod thought maybe a yellow eyed demon. Got the fish up and saw a nice blackfish around 5-6 lbs. Holy crap!! Get the net lol.

That was pretty much it after that. We left soon after as we had no more clams. Roy really tested the ride on the way back in the snot and what a sweet ride. The boat cut through the chop like a hot knife through butter. So smooth and dry also.

Stripers and a tog on the same trip, doesn't get any better than that!

Thats what I thought. Originally wanted to split the trip between stripers and tog but nobody had green crabs this morning. With the S wind kicking up we didn't want to head down the beach with just clams.

was on the Misty yesterday and a keep sized black was caught in the back of the Raritan. Fish was released as it was loaded with eggs.

Hey Bill, nice work on the tog. I was out there yesterday in the back with Jeff, we ended up with 7 keeper bass and a bunch of shorts. You should have went togging with clams. I went Saturday down by me and it was non-stop all on clams. Damn shame the season is closing as there are a lot of fish around right now!

Hey Anthony I kind of thought you were heading out with Jeff next weekend. I want to try and get out with him on Sat. I talked to him early yesterday and it sounded like you guys were off to a good start. Thought you'd be limiting. I think we could've maybe done better if we had more clams for chumming. Wind picked up pretty good out of the south and thats why we didn't head down to the reef or rocks.

Yupp we thought so too, but it's all Jeff's fault for jinxing us by saying, oh we'll be done quick and can go winter flounder fishing or go home early! About 15min later the bite died, LOL. Let me know if you go Saturday, maybe I'll join you...
