Bumped into Shucker on my way down to the river today. This little bastard hit 5 times before I hooked him. I had a musky rod so it was a quick fight, quick pic and quick release. Swam away very healthy. Glad I got my lunchtime musky checked off the bucket list. Also had what I am 99% sure were river herring following my bait back on a few occasions.

What'd it hit?

It hit a 6-inch gold Storm Swim shad. I didn't want to use anything with trebles because of all the snags. The fish hit twice and missed within the first ten minutes I was there and then nothing. Fifteen minutes later he hit and had the bait in his mouth but I wasn't paying attention and didn't set the hook. A few minutes after that he hit again and ripped the tail off. Instead of putting a new one on, I figured the fish was pretty hot at that point so I swam the bait without the tail where I knew he was sitting and finally connected.

It seems like if there is a body of water and it has Muskies, you will find them !!
The river so healthy, all we need now is a sea run brown trout program in there. I'm mean hold over Brook Trout also!
I'm still shopping for a float boat. AndyS guided float trips on the Raritan river, maybe some day. (for now it's just the 17 ft. canoe I use to float with)

Thank you Andy. And I agree about the river being healthy. Like I mentioned, I'm fairly certain what I saw today were river herring and not gizzard shad.

If we could get Sea Run Brookies in there that would be the ultimate IMO. Nice C&R catfishonthelake!

Nice catch man! A buddy of mine caught one there about 2 wks ago, its good to see these fish doing well in the river. The lower raritan with a fishable population of pure strains and walleye would be a dream come true.

It CAN become a dream come true. Write letters, send e mails, attend F&G meetings.

Nice fish Mark. What did that fish measure? 30-32 inches? Just trying to figure out if it could be 1 of the 25 they stocked last fall. The fish they stocked were all around 30 inches from what Ive heard but at the same time it can be a Tiger thats been in there for a while. Just hoping the Tigers are eating and growing. RIVER MONSTERS!!! BOUND BROOK EDITION!!!
GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!

Eddie I didn't get a measure, but that is exactly what I guesstimated, btw 30 and 33. No monster, but it definitely wasn't a baby either.

Yea buddy, always a blast to see the tigers in the river and canal. Plenty of food for them to eat in there.
