What kind of terminal tackle are people using on party boats for stripers. I think boats are using clam as bait. Also are most fishing braid(to fluorocarbon).
thanks

Spinning set up with 20 to 30 pound braid same in Fluor carb top shot about 20 yards or so, fish finder slider for weight with a 4/0 to 6/0 hook should be a pretty basic set up for you. If you don't have braid not a real big deal just go with mono 20 to 30 pound is more then enough since they net most all fish on the party boats.

If mono is used,do you still need fluorocarbon. Are stripers line shy.

never hurts to have pre tied rigs of different size hooks on different pound line, so why not use flouro. They can be finicky at times. Now when their crashing bunker on top it's not needed.

IMHO, I don't think braid is needed when clamming from a party boat because once hooked the bass seldom if ever runs straight out from the boat but runs to the left and right. If you don't follow the fish (which most people don't as their feet seemed glued to the deck) you'll cause a massive tangle with the braid.

I've been clamming from party boats since, well since the party boat stopped chunking bunker and switched to clams and always have used #20 mono.

The rig I use is simple, fish finder on the mono followed by a high quality barrel swivel to which I tie on a 24-36" piece of leader material (early in the season I'll use a lighter leader before the bluefish invade) with a 6/0 baitholder hook snelled to the end.

I also like to have a few rigs pre-tied and ready.

Why did they stop chunking?

Have to ask them.

In the mid-late 1990's the party boats that targeted stripers would chunk bunker on the Knoll. Had many successful trips doing such. Then sometime in the early 2000's they switched over to clamming. Think I once heard that clams were cheaper than bunker.
