Hell-o everyone, Joey, Mike and I brought the ANGLER back from the Voyager's slip on Saturday to our regular home berth. I spoke to Bob on the Gambler as we left the inlet and headed North. He was in search of stripped bass and had looked North on Friday. He was headed South as he had seen no life nor bait to the north on Friday. I told him I would look North for him. I did see some bunker and bait 2 miles off the beach up until Belmar inlet. There was some more bait as we got to the Shrewsbury Rocks but no sign of bass.
We had some fresh clam on board and made one stop to see if ther was any bottom life. We gave it a good shot but only caught some horned dogs. I had figured right that it was a week or so early, but you never know and we were passing by and gave it a shot.
We had planed on starting this Saturday but with the winds forecast for Friday and Friday night we will wait till Sunday April 7th to start. Bottom fishing for ling, tog and cod. 3/4 day 7:30 till 2:30.
Over the years we have seen the bottom fish move inshore around the first week of April with good fishing right through May. West and North West winds bring the fish in and makes them bite. Strong Southerly winds are the worse dropping the water temps. and normally shutting down the bite for a day or two. If you can plan it try to fish after a few days of NW winds.
I took a picture of Atlantic Highlands harbor as I was docking. Notice there are no private boat docks, just pilings.
Also a picture of Joey with the first dog.
The weather looks more spring like next week.
Thanks Captain George
