I fished an Open Boat trip today on the Russian Roulette today.
Bite was off but I had a good day nonetheless.
This was my first time on the boat and found it clean, extremely comfortable and fast. Captain spared no fuel expenses moving the boat to try to put us on the fish. He also had plenty of Ling rigs, lead and GULP for us to use.
We started the trip on the far side of the Mudhole with not even a tap then moved back to the other side of the Hole.
Fishing was a pick all day. I think I boxed about 8 Medium Ling, plus a 23" keeper Cod, the only one caught. I stopped by the Brielle dock and spoke to a buddy that fished Belmar and it was slow all over. I think it will turn back on when the water temps get a little higher.
It was a little rough on the way out but it laid down and was a beautiful day on the water.
Once again, Gulp was the ticket for hooking fish, as well as keeping the Doggies away. When plain Gulp slowed down we used Bergall and Ling belly strips, which helped a bit. When we got desperate and broke out the Clam it turned into the Dogpound.
Was good to meet fellow NJfishing guys Mikeytheflop, his friend Mike, Cliff and Codbuster, as well as Capt Dennis and Mate Tommy. I kook forward to fishing with these guys and on this boat again.
No pictures. Battery died.
