We fished Friday and Saturday on the Phideaux. We went 14 for 22. No trolling, outriggers were left at the dock. All caught on Jigging an Popping gear... which were put to the test. We had two triples and a quad today. Fishing was off the hoook, and Jamie put us on the fish all day... this dog can fish.
Here is a preview... more to come.

That was lights out fishing for you guys. Looks like you had the right weather. We were out last sunday and had fish up to 450 all on the troll.
Were hoping for some jigged/popped fish fish but it was not meant to be as we really did not give it much of an effort as we were fishing in some crappy weather. Great pics. Give us a rundown on tackle you used. 14 fish for 4 guys in no joke as those big bluefin are brutal. Your legs(quads) must have been screaming the next day.
Thanks for shareing,
Alex

What kind of fight times were you looking at on jigged and popped fish.

Alex,
The 70 inchers take about 15 minutes on the jig gear while the 80+ inchers seem to take around 45 minutes. Add a few extra minutes for popping gear. We did have a mystery fish that almost spooled a Stella and eventually broke the 100LB hollow core line after 1 1/2 hours.. we never got color on that one.
A variety of gear was used but the common setup was the Black Hole 450 gram with Jigging Master PE 8 reels. Line was 80 or 100LB hollow core with some reels step-spliced to 50-100 yards of 130LB hollow on top to allow for extra heat at the end game. The last 25 feet can be brutal.
