My family and I are planning a trip to Oahu in July. Just wondering if anyone has a charter boat they can recommend. Also do they have Party boats there? What are they catching In July? Any help is appreciated.

Pennsy Guy..That looks good..I will give them a call as soon as we nail down the date we will be there. Shrimpman..I would no problem fishing with you anywhere. You are welcome to come and we could split the cost of the charter but your on your own for the airfare and hotel...LOL

So jealous you are going! Spent almost 2 weeks on the islands for my honeymoon 2 years ago and fishing wasn't in the itinerary, but we are planning to go back next year and hangout on Oahu longer and then the Big Island and I WILL fish then, haha:D

After you go, post a report for us!! My recommendation for the trip is to get the the Oahu Revealed book. The "Blue Books" for the islands are priceless and tell you about all the local haunts! We spent most of our time split between Kauai and Maui. Also, don't take a good set of hiking shoes for granted! I saw tons of busted ankles since "mainlanders" think hiking in flip flops is a good idea... Have fun out there!!

Chrislars, I will check out the "Blue Books" If I can find them. I am pretty familiar with the Island as I was there for work for over a month(that was a while ago and did not fish..darn work). I want to make the most of it this time.

Oahu isnt the best island to fish from in the chain......but it does have its days. I personally prefer the North shore boats to the Waikiki harbor as there is less pressure, and IMHO, better chances for a nice ahi.

That being said, the summer months are prime time for marlin....

IF you are serious about fishing, you might want to do an overnight to Kauai or the Big Island to fish Kona.

Kona gets all the attention, and with trophy-class wahoo just 50 yards off the beach, and numerous grander marlin caught every year, deservedly so, but Kauai has, IMHO, better fishing on a daily basis than all the other Hawaiian islands combined. It just doesnt get any credit or publicity because there are only a handful of charters working there, unlike Kona, which has dozens and dozens.

Kauai is one of those rare islands where cow yellowfin are 15 minutes from the harbor, and 10-20 pounders (shibi)are almost trash fish some days. Also, the deepwater jigging is insane on both Kauai and the Big Island.

If you are looking for a great place to stay on Oahu, you cant go wrong at the Ilikai in Waikiki. Manager is a good friend and if you want I might be able to get you a good deal....PM me for details, and look up the hotel on Trip Advisor.

Mahao!

Thanks Capt JJ. My wife has us set up at The Outrigger Reef for the last week in July. If anything changes I will send you a pm. I may take an Island hopper and stay one night on another Island. Thanks for the offer and advice

I too stayed at the outrigger reef my last time in Hawaii........by the way, the best charter I have ever been on. We caught 4 blue marlin, countless dolphin, wahoo, and yellow fin tuna. It was 20 years ago and have never had a better trip. I hope they are still in business....website has not been updated since 2007. Good luck. Definitely check out www.kaanapalisportfishing.com. AKA Diver Dan Charters. (808)667-5792.
