Anybody see any killies out yet? I have a few spots that i catch yr round and a few spots that i are early season spots and haven't had a need until today and nothing in 2 spots was thinking the storm possibly had some damage or something but just curious if they have been seen any where else

Just curious......why trap them now? Are you raising them or using them? What, besides white perch, can you use them for now? Like I said, I'm just curious.

Yup, white perch. They should be starting to school up now in their regular haunts. I will be out looking for killies starting this week. Just set up my stock tank.

I store them in a live pen.. Some times during fluke season the tide is not right in the morning to really catch so instead of going the day without them i just pull some out of the live pen and have some for the day.. Last season i was catching so many and filled my pen i was giving them to other anglers at Browns point that were headed out for the day.. Was filling 3 traps to the brim every 20 mins at low tide... So i just got as many as i could and used them all season and gave a ton away.. Was thinking of selling them but since i was using old fish racks and old bread there was no cost for me.. So just gave em away as people needed them.. They are kind of expensive to buy at the bait shop so i understand why people dont buy any..
I will be doing the same thing this year again.. So if you see me at the boat just ask and i will fill a bucket for you

I trap my own and keep them in a wooden killie car which I made. I use fish racks for food for them but overcrowding is an issue especially when the trapping is good. I was thinking of making a pen like the kind that is used for bunkers and herring only with smaller mesh.

That is exactly what i did.. someone was getting rid a large bunker pen that the mesh had given out on.. I already had one for bunker so i removed the mesh from the busted one and put very small mesh on it.. Its pretty big.. Over crowding is not an issue now.. I can put a million in there and they are fine.. feed them crabs, fish racks, etc..
Looking for another pen now too.. Want to use it for spot..

I saw killies and fiddler crabs in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland county salt marshes all winter long. Killies were also in Delaware River tidal tributaries.

The lagoons across the street from my house are now a lot "larger" due to Sandy and sink holes as they are now basically on the edge of bay boulevard - they are also about 18" deeper on the edge and some of the marsh grass is GONE. I took a good look last Sunday in the "new" lagoons which are now bordered by rip rap, and didn't see a single killie even after throwing some bread at the ducks w/ my daughter and niece.
These spots were always loaded, year round, but the killies don't seem to be in there right now.
Killies are a great perch bait and freshwater guys do well with pickerel with them.

I have been catching them but they are hit or miss... I will be making a "winter minnow trap" video next week...
