Paul leaving again?? He may be a great mate but he comes off as quite the diva. Maybe he needs his own boat and crew.

Saying you want to be a capt. is a whole lot different then being a Capt. If he does his own thing I think his prospective will change when those bills start rolling in!!!and the cash does not.
just my 2 cents!!

A Fishermans soap opera it is. But lets be honest here, don't you all believe that the same shit actually happens in real life on the charter boats we fish on? I sure do!!!! I'm a tuna.com fan I like all the guys on the boat. If it was easy every one would do it. Pin wheel is a great fisherman but still a pin head :)

Try 20 over nighters and the pressures of the bills for bait, fuel, insurance etc etc etc and then being on the same deck day after day after day. It's no wonder a few of the guys get a little irritated with each other.
On the other hand if I was Captain there is no way I would put up with the BS that the Pin Wheel crew has been pulling. You would be on the dock and a fresh crew installed that knew the meaning of work and being on time.

Jason, the mate on The Odyssea owns and runs two open / charter boats in Jupiter Fl. "Samana" http://www.samanacharters.com, he has posted on Facebook that they caught way more than 1 fish. Run's a good operation in Jupiter, been out a few times. Show is fun to watch, but like most reality tv its made up.

Id never work for Ralph.. The guy is always on a rampage...
Tyler needs to find a crew that wants to be there.. The crew should always get there before the Capt and begin to get the boat ready for the day.. NOt show up 5 hours late and hate being there..

Ralph is a hot head acting or no acting. Jason, is a decent mate, but to be treated the way Ralph treats him and not catching anything. Tyler, needs to get a new crew. They seem like they don't care. Sandro and Paul did very well with out Dave. Have to have some drama to make it interesting. Great show! :D

Sandro is BEAST!
That kid knows exactly what he's doing at any given time.
Capt. Dave is lucky to have him.
As for Capt. Ralph - he's a hot head - but he's right!
That mate always seems to be doing the wrong things at the wrong time....
and then he cuts the lines "YOU DON'T CUT MY LINES!"
Feel bad for Marciano - I like him. reminds me of the old school guy...
I am glad those two guys from the Bounty Hunter took the week off LOL

Dave , not giving anything away but what is your favorite BFT hook ? Do you like circle hooks ?
I've tried every hook out there from "J" hooks to live bait hooks to circle hooks.
One week when we catch 10 in a row, and thought we found our perfect hook only to throw all the other brands over the side. Next week we pull 5, break 3 and straighten 2. Once again the search for the perfect hook continues.
In my opinion, there is no perfect hook, one is not better than the other from my observation. Every hook has it's good streaks and it's bad streaks. You just don't know what is in your deck of cards when the rod laps over and you can just hope it stays in and does it's job.
With all that said, certain hooks are better for certain baits and that's what we go by now. A live bait will get a live bait hook for the best presentation and a chunk will get a bigger circle hook or "J" hook.
Everyone has their favorite hook, for us we like and dislike them all.

Again...great show.
Like everyone...especially the hard core Pin Wheel guys...reminds me of 20 years ago when Darren and I would run 20 to 25 miles in my Mako 20 (really did not care about the weather back then)...we just went.
One trip in October (1994 I think?) we had a 125 lb BFT...the Mud Hole...we had three rods out with butterfish baits...40 lb Berkley Big Game line with JT (K Mart) leaders and 6-0 or 7-0 tuna hooks...no flourocarbon back then.
We were sleeping and had all three rods go off...two got off and we fought the one for two hours on a Penn 30 with 40 lb line...got off the ball and then harponed it.
It had a shark bite on its side (about a month old?)...unreal.
The Shannon K was next to us and saw the whole thing.
We boated the BFT and it weighed 125 lbs...
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...tuna fishing!!

He might crack many people up, however you don't down talk a captain or tell a captain how to fish especially when my boat catches 100 bluefin a year. Paul is only on the boat for a few weeks each fall and see about 10 fish a year. Don't make me change what's not broke.
You want to make the calls, it's simple, buy a boat and be your own captain. There's a reason he goes from boat to boat. What happened on the Bounty Hunter? Billy let him do what he wanted and caught fish and he said he paid him very well. Wonder why he was not invited back? Lets see what happens on this next boat and see if he starts there on season 3? There's a trend here.
It's simple.....captains boat, captains money and captains rules. Ans I'm very fair about including my crew in every decision I make.
Keep watching and see how he treats the next owner/captain and will he be fishing there next season or on another boat again?
Good Fishing coming and hope u all are enjoying it.

We all rely on our boats to put food on the table.
I personally fish from Aoril through Christmas, boat is out almost every day and many streaks 24/7. I fly in the off season and a few days a month while I'm fishing. My boat is my priority and my main source of income. I made the choice to fly also as a back up plan.
Most of the others do the same, but do work in a different field and some take the winter off.

Capt. Dave is right and he doesn't have to justify anything . We don't see everything . Anyone can look great when the Camera's/Customers are around . What someone appeares to be and what they are can be two different things . Not showing up for work or showing up late and not calling ,second guessing the Captain in public, and not pulling your weight behind the scenes are just some of things that all Captains have to deal with . No matter how good someone looks you can only put up with so much of their BS . Also being a part timer your back isn't against the wall as you already have an income . I have liked a lot of my co-workers but being a good person doesn't always get the job done .

Dave has a ton of respect in my book (for all two cents that is worth). He isn't in this for the TV ratings, he is in it for the fish and this is his career. It's been said here many times that the show and the 'real fishing world' are two different things. We don't see the whole picture or hear all the conversations, just what drama the producers decide to put in the show that will keep everyone in front of the TV. For all we know, Paul could be the Snooki of the sea, great for reality TV ratings but not much else.
As for the Pinhead, I think he is finding out first hand that doing business with
friends is hardly a good thing. If you want to keep your friends, don't go into business with them especially if you are the only one in the mix that has any investment in the pot. He may be able to catch a lot of fish, but that doesn't make you a great fisherman. Again we aren't seeing the whole story, he is portrayed as the arrogant new kid on the show, but to be a true fisherman means respecting the locals and learning from them instead of pissing them off and talking smack to them. Its a rite of passage for the newbies in the area to be harassed by the local pros, not the other way around. Fishing Karma will hit him soon I bet.

Dave is doing what he has to do in protecting his investment. That is not just the boat and associated costs but something far more valuable in his reputation. Why does everyone say they are coming after dotcom for 2 seasons? Because year in and out he has beat all his competition.
Paul broke the number one rule. Do not bite the hand that feeds you. He has been feeding off Dave for 11 years now.
Watch how humble Sandro is. Last episode was the first time I have ever seen him with a swagger like that. Yet he was still humble compaired to Paul talking trash about Dave.
Like Dave posted lets see what he does with another boat. When Billy took Scott back and Paul was left looking for work that said a lot right there.

I actually just started watching the show a few weeks ago, and watched it at the very beginning when it first came on. I regained interest this winter because I have the time to watch it LOL. Initially, I took interest in the show because I spoke to Dave a few years ago on the phone about cod fishing right before my dad passed. We spoke for about 40 minutes about him being from NJ, the fisheries up in MA, and everything within our business and it was a great converssation. Dave came across as a great guy who has a world of knowledge, and also, being from NJ got my "due respect" up front - so Dave if you read this I WILL get up there to fish w/ you guys at some point in time :)
My take on the show: Marciano is old school, a VERY RESPECTABLE guy and somebody that's out there for the right reasons. The kid on the shiny boat w/ the long hair is an intense, passionate kid and he's a real gamer - gotta love that about his character too. He's running a tight ship and he knows what he wants and knows what he's doing. "Hot head" Ralph is intense - he's demanding - he's like most of us are at certain times. You never know if the cameras are playing up one side of him while at other times he's somebody else - at one point in last week's show he was bantering with the mate when he was "talking" - showing a playful side. I'm sure Ralph is a good guy.
And Sandro. Man that kid is good! He can fish, he can run the boat, and he can make Dave his coffee and oatmeal. Gotta love it!!(you reading this KENNY?)
I know one thing I don't want to do, ever, in Gloucester, is shoot that bridge with a HARD tide on my stern - that thing makes the train bridge in the Manasquan OR the old Route 88 PP Canal Bridge look like a walk in a park

Sad to see Paul go but Dave did the right thing for sure, u don't talk down to the capt! Ever! I bet some stuff goes down with Paul running his own boat... Curious if a boat owner approached him to run the boat for publicity? Great show.. Dave and Marciano are my favorites...Pinhead is ok too, he is wrong from talking smack to the locals.. Honestly he is lucky Ralph didn't knock him out and lucky the locals didn't run him right out of town

everytime the capt. from bounty hunter throws the harpoon, which isn't often, it's an adventure, he doesn't seem to put much power into his throw, and his aim is pretty bad. Feel bad for donna and his mate, that was a nice fish. I like paulie, but man it's not your boat, make a suggestion but if the captain doens't want to take heed of your suggestion let it go, it's his operation, and he's your boss.
