Blackfish/Bergall hybrid?

Just wondering if this happens?
I recall a conversation many years ago on the old Skipper-[the 40 footer] between Capt Dom and one of the every week regulars concerning the mottled brown/tan blackfish we see from time to time.. I have caught several that color, but never any real big ones.. If I remember the conversation correctly, these fish were suppossed to be a cross between blackfish and bergalls. Its no big deal and it may be false, but over the years I have wondered about it.
No one knew blackfish better than capt Dom did, and I seem to recall him saying they were capable of cross breeding.. I can't be sure, it was decades ago.. Any one ever hear this???... bob

Those togs are just juveniles. They change colors quite frequently actually. I have a fish tank with a bunch of local species. I've put those color togs in and watched them change all different colors depending what kind of mood their in. When their stressed out they look more pale and after they adapt to your tank they choose a color depending on your tank background and rock color. And if anothe fish tries to invade their space they turn a bit darker.

Those togs are just juveniles. They change colors quite frequently actually. I have a fish tank with a bunch of local species. I've put those color togs in and watched them change all different colors depending what kind of mood their in. When their stressed out they look more pale and after they adapt to your tank they choose a color depending on your tank background and rock color. And if another fish tries to invade their space they turn a bit darker.

I have caught those cream/brown tog up to about 15-16 inches... I don't regard that as a juvenile, but I could be wrong I suppose.. I am kind of surprised I am the only one on this board thats ever heard of this...
Like I said, I don't really know, just wondering if its something other old timers have heard... bob

I have caught tiny black fish less than an inch in the sein net and their actualy lime green almost. The color of the sea weed they hang out in. You put them in a bucket w some sand and they change color instantly. The set up used to be awesome before the hurricane. A puffer, sea bass, porgies, even a baby grouper caught on the sandy hook reef. Every thing died after the storm cuz of no electricity to pump the water. Anything that didn't die got released and started from scratch right now only a tog and two bergalls in there.

To answer the original question its impossible for a blackfish and a bergalls to mate. They are both in the wrass family but they are two separate animals. Fluke and flounder are both in the sole family same concept.

Think it has something to do with temp, and surroundings they live in!
