Hey guys, with the winter flounder opener just 2 weeks away I'm jonesing to get out.
Do you guys know what the regulations for this year will be?
Also, early season, which parts of the Navesink do u recommend? Are the flounder usually back far upriver near the 20 buoy? Closer to Red bank? Or further east, past the oceanic bridge?
Always hear of guys doing real well on the Navesink, but have yet to get that type of success the past few years. Hopefully this year's the year!

Unless it changed this year opening day is March 23rd. I always had better luck on a warm sunny day on the outgoing tide, usually in the PM when the water has had a chance to warm up a bit during the day. Chum heavy. Is it worth 2 fish? Not really. Is it worth getting the #*$* outta the house? Yup.

P.S. As soon as I hear from Capt. Kevin about a start date I will post it. We will be striper fishing 730am to 230 pm. The Harbor is still pier-less but Party Boat Row should (and I stress the "should") be back to normal by the start of the season. Hopefully the powers that be in AH realize how important it is to get the PB fleet off to a good 2013 season for all of us and the local economy.

This two fish limit is nonsense. If they assumed a recreational catch tonnage based on a 2 fish limit, they are off by 100% because 100% of the flounder fisherman are not fishing.
The Gov should do something because Winter Flounder is the start of the Shore Season. Its the time when you know when winter is over and its time to head to the Jersey Shore.
And this is the year when we need to do all we can to get people to the shore.
He can easily justify a 4 fish limit based on the fact that there is no recreational catch right now and this will help jump start the 2013 Jersey Shore Season.

I understand that we fish as a sport or hobby but come on, 2 12" fish.
You call that a day out fishing.
Gas to get to spot, money for chum, bait, tackle, lunch, ect.
Yea cabin fever has got us all but fair is fair. Netters drag em all up, no size limit but us fisherman can't even feed a family.

Its the same as bass.. only keep two but after you get your limit play catch and release.. Granted you dont get as much meat but at least you get 4 tasty fillets out of em.. And gets you out of the house!

Clearly not worth even going; cabin fever or not. LUDICROUS limit and No Limit is right.....98% flounder fishermen won't even bother going with a 2 fish limit.

On top of the limit being ridiculous all those small mussel beds in the river.....the party boat go to spots may be sand covered like the inshore of lb after sandy. Go key port fishery have a sandwich and then to mghdonahues for some UAE glint and jaeger.lol

The rules suck...and I totally agree it should be increased...but I still go out for the two. It's just nice to get out...fish and hopefully watch the pole bend. With sandy and the horrible regs...lots of captains and towns need the business and support...

My Flounder fishing under these regs. consists of throwing a chum pot off the end of my dock before I head out bassing. Have 2 baited hook coming off the pot, one short one long.
8 out of 10 times I have 2 Flounder on when I get back in. At the end of the week we have enough for a meal.:D ;)
