Every year or two you may see me go in to the ocean up to my ankles, But I will never swim in the ocean, scares the crap out of me! Ya, I know, the chances are a zillion to one of getting attacked, but if I don't go in the ocean the chances are 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Steve stop being a sissy! lol. I scuba dive off Jersey. Two years ago I was diving in about 80ft and the first 30ft was peasoup. I went down and shot a nice 8lb fluke. On the way up, I was doing my deco hang about 15ft and I felt something bump my leg. Now being it was so murky, I couldn't see more then 2 ft. I didn't feel any pain so I knew I didn't get bit by anything yet. Then a minute later I felt it again, this time harder. Now I'm getting nervous as hell. I ended up skipping the last 30seconds of my deco (not recommended but it was my last dive for the day), and raced up to the boat and up the ladder. Once on board I realized the fluke I speared was still alive and that's what was hitting me in the leg! Gave the guys on the boat a good laugh.

True story---When I was Stationed at Naval Air Station, Rota, Spain back in late 50's, we'd take a couple "girls" to the beach for the afternoon..once I decided to swim out and see how deep/what the bottom was like...started down feet first..I'm guessing at about 12-15' I touched down-thought to myself--damn, that's a hard sand bottom, let me get a better feel..with no weight belt I naturally started up so with 4-5 arm strokes I'm back down--only there's no hard sand bottom...man, you talk about sh***' I came up started swimming for all I was worth...remembered navy told us don't make noise/splashes so started doing breast stroke..after 30 seconds I'm not moving fast enough--I just wanted out of there. looked back, didn't see a fin so started swimming my ass off..never looked back again...figured if it's going to get me I don't want to see it coming....Obviously, it didn't and I can only think it was one big shark never went that far out again.....

Another time, I worked in my father's asphalt plant for a summer job..16yrs old...we had a big contract so it was 12 hr days...lived in AC then so after work would take my blowup raft (28"X56" as best I can remember)down the beach and ride some waves in...this one late afternoon waves were tiny so I just drifted....woke up and it was pitch black, I look and I'm up beach about 2-3 miles almost to the steel Pier and out as far as the ocean end--where the Diving Horse did his thing...back then the pier was at it's original length...that scared the sh+t out of me...arms and lower legs in the water...I had visions of me being thought of as a seal...oh, yea, we knew about shark attacks back then from the movie news reels...they'd show the surf board with the huge chunk out of it and the guy in the hospital with the missing leg or mangled shoulder or tooth lacerations around his side....

Then the movie Jaws comes out....

That's why God made swimming pools...LOL

Well Steve if you really want to get freaked out, check this out, I have been tracking this Great White shark for some time now, she actually swam thru the East River to the LI Sound this winter for some seals (we are guessing) then up to Cape Cod and down to Bermuda!

Quint: Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods. This shark, swallow you whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', an' down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back your tourists, put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's just too many captains on this island. $10,000 for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

Be at peace it wasn't a shark that took that track it was the exploration boat, M/V OCEARCH, that tags the sharks. But Mary Lee the 16ft 3456lb great white just passed off the coast of NJ...not to comforting.

Great website you can track Mary Lee's path sometime she swims right off the shores.
