For the first time, ever, I had broken my 50lb mono top shot tied to 65lb braid at the knot. All that was left was the mono wraps above the braid wraps. Almost like the braid knot cut the mono. Very strange to say the least as I tied this thousands of times and never had this problem. Anyone else ever have this problem?

sounds like a week spot, could hit a eye wrong and put a small cut in the mono.

It happened 3 times in a row on one trip. Same rod and reel the next trip, it was fine.

I had the same problem. With 50# mono, the pull needed to break it often caused the braid to cut the mono. I no longer use that not but developed my own, which has never failed me. If I was more computer handy I would show you how to tie it. It is easy and very strong.

Had this happen with brand new mono, the knot would slip and the mono would be left with curls. Friend was using the same line and I tied his with no problem. Everytime I tied mine the same problem. Swithched to Ande and haven't had a problem since.

When you tie the knot do the braid first. Wrap it twice around the mono before making the knot. Make sure the knots are pulled tight against each other so you you don't get any sort of "sawing" action.

I'm no pro...but there is an app and probably a website called knot wars. It's part of the tv show on NBC sports network. It gives you video tutorial on almost every knot out there. It has a few knots you can use in place of uni to uni. Awesome app...you should check it out. Very detailed info about every knot. Knot wars.com

There are better knots for braid to mono than uni to uni.

Thanks for sharing, and easy to do. Definitely will give this knot a try. I never really had a problem with uni to uni. This is definitely a stronger knot. :D

Once you get the hang of it ( very ez ) you will see a difference. I actually make it a bit different than the video but just as strong.

Agree the Albright or Modified Albright is a great knot. Easy to tie, but make sure to keep the wraps on the mono when tightening down, once the wraps slip onto the braid, i end up cutting it and redoing it.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried the Albright after this happened but was a little harder to do then the modified Albright. I will definitely try it. Strange thing was I never had a problem with the uni to uni before.

You sure your line wasn't dry rotted?

Positive. Ande 50lb mono leader material. Used it all fall with no problems. Maybe I forgot how to tie that day. Just tied the Albright. Very easy and strong. Also goes through the guides smoother.

I have had that issues before.. Brand new mono and braid and it would still break.. could not figure it out.. Switched to the Albright and never looked back.. stronger and very small profile..

Check out these knots, I did some research and when going from braid to mono or fluro, these are arguably the best knots there are depending on the type of fishing according to sport fishing mag survey! I use the first one for all inshore fishing and some offshore bottom the latter is the best knot according to the survey for any and all offshore beasts! Start with a Bimini twist on the braid and then go with the improved Bristol for the mono or fluro ! Never had any problems what so ever with this one when properly tied. The improved FG is supposed to be the best knot for strength and functionality ! This knot is intimidating for most but with practice and perfection unbeatable! Good luck! Ps both are on u tube !

Look up the Alberto Knot on YouTube. It's a variation of the Albright. It's easy to tie and very reliable.

Tie a surgeons knot in the braid to create a loop, but when tying the knot , instead of going thru once go thru four times. The knot will cinch tight with the appearance of a hangmans noose. Once you create the loop attatch the mono with a bristol knot. Very strong knot and easy to tie with cold fingers

I agree Alberto knot all the way! Very easy to tie and very reliable. Just re- spooled two reels with braid and used the Alberto to tie on leaders ... like I said easy to do .. and clean low profile reliable knot! :)

the New stuff Is absolute crap. If it the braid kinda feels like dental floss Its no good. I dont know what it is But when casted, It will break at any weak spot and when you te a uni to uni it creates weak spots. I had the same porble for A while before I found out what it was.

I tried the modified Albright, which I think is the same thing as the Alberto. I will never tie uni to uni again!
