Offshore Giant Sea Bass - Jumbo Porgies - Cod – Pollock

& Monday Presidents Day & 2/28

The offshore forecast looks good for Wednesday. There is still space available.
Call the office for reservations.

2-13 Offshore Sea Bass Report
Giant sea bass and Jumbo Porgies are still biting! The Wednesday offshore trip was another good one. Everybody caught their limit of Sea Bass and a good number of Jumbo Porgies. We also had a couple of purple hake and a few ling.

The pool winners were:
Morris Duckett from Allentown PA with a 12LB White Hake, his limit of sea bass and several porgies,
Gim Yee from Flushing NY with an 8LB White Hake, his limit of Sea Bass and 16 Porgies.

It looks good for the rest of the season. There is a large body of warm water still pushing in from the Gulf Stream so there is no reason for the Sea Bass to migrate further offshore until March or April.

I expect to have good fishing on upcoming trips right through the end of the month when the season is closed early again.

The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail offshore every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday leaving 11PM the night before.

We have also added a trip for Monday , Presidents Day sailing 11PM the night before & Thursday February 28th, the last day of Giant Sea Bass fishing for the winter.

We now have “Ventafish” venting tools available for purchase for those who catch their limit early and want to release the rest safely.

The winner will be chosen at random on March 11 and will be notified via Facebook. Becoming a fan of our Facebook page will also keep you updated on the latest reports, photos and specials!

Great trip! Tons of jumbo seabass, nice porgys and a few miscellaneous fish to round out the day. Mates were great and everyone went home with a nice catch.

I hope we have a few more good weather windows to get out and jig up some more!

I started jigging in the dark with nothing to show for it and switched to bait after 1/2 an hour. Bait fished for a while and had a 10 or so seabass and then put on the jig again. Finished out my limit of bass and also added 10 porgys on the jig.

Bait was definitely more effective but I prefer jigging, plus I was hoping for a pollock or cod to win some$$$$.

Hello Mike.

I hope to get out perhaps Weds nite next week if weather allows, and my wife will advance my $$ allowance. There is no question who is whipped in this household.

I've got some 6 oz. hammered jigs, and some A67's as well as 7oz crippled herring. Will they work for the biscuits flipping out from the boat ?
I assume I can add assist hooks. Are they all too light ?

Any shops up this way I can pick up some heavier jigs in the next week ?

Thanks in advance for the input.

Tom I used both a 6 and 8 oz flat hammered jig for the seabass this trip. It really depends on the amount of current. Sometimes jigging is pretty much impossible because you have too much current. I usually prefer to cast away from the boat and then squid the jig 5 turns off the bottom and then bounce the jig like a bucktail. Sometimes hard swings like you would for cod works well, sometimes squidding way off the bottom is tge ticket. Try different techniques and see what the fish want that day. Also remember to bring some gulp or squid to tip the jig. Sometimes you dont need it others it is key.

Good luck!

Nice Hake. Haven't see many of those big ones in a while.
