Went out with a nice crowd of less than 50. Took a good steam and arrived at the first spot. Started with a pick of sea bass and ling then all dogs fro an hr and a half. Then we had a decent sunrise bite, but it was not what the Captain was looking for. Next spot was a steady pull for a few hours, all who tried hard got their limit here plus some nice porgies. I had some near me who were sporadically fishing and didn't have the hang of it. This wound up being good as I was able to keep upgrading my 15 fish while finishing off their limits. I caught a lot of porgies here, even on 6/0 baitholders, most had many less porgies. Last spot was a try for some cod and pollack, I only saw a slow pick of jumbo sea bass and bergalls here. Pool fish were two white hake. I didn't not get a good look at them so my estimate from very afar was 7-10lbs. I wound up with a 15 fish limit that weighed 54lbs. I gave away 17 other keeper sea bass and 32 porgies to the less fortunate.

We had one guy who was taking pictures of all the sea birds with a ridiculously tricked out camera. He was so excited about all the different birds, he barely fished. Must have taken 500 photos. Just looked like the regular old birds I am used to seeing in the inter, but to each his own.

Because I was in the bow, the bird dude was always near me snapping away. He had names for everything, saying oh that is my favorite bird. Think he had 4 sea bass and 3 porgies, but I gave him 9 sea bass and he gifted me 2 bottle of Sierra Nevada.

That story is too funny about the Bird Dude.:D Way to work it for a beer. That's what I would have done too.;)
Were jigs producing good sea bass bites or attracting other less desirable?

I never tried a jig, I saw some were jigging further down the line and catching. Bird guy was also seasonally incorrect as he had Sierra Nevada Weissbier which is a summer drink. It was very calm out and not too cold, but hardly summer.

Sounds like a pretty cool trip.

Any truth the rumor that there were 80 more people fishing from the engine room? LMAO

Have to make the traditional scallops and risotto tonight for VDay but will do a little sea bass crudo app. Not sure what I will do with the rest of my bag tomorrow, probably make it a couple of different ways with my dad, as it is ladies movie night on Friday. Wound up with 4 big bags of fillets and 1 small bag. Small bag is going to one of my mom's widow friends, other 3 big bags being given away, biggest bag stays here, some head and lots of ribs in the freezer for stock.

There were 23 little people fishing off the top deck and right before we pulled out I saw a garish VW Beetle pull-up and 17 clowns in Grundens piled out with 3 fishing rods each.

I think I know those clowns none of their rods had reels on them. Did they have silver-colored unicycles.

They all had spin reels on conventional rods and were fishing them upside down.
