Reason I am asking is this.. My buddy and I live in far upstate NY near Ithaca.
250 miles each way to the shore.. We have decided on going out next Monday.. We wanted to go out on one of the boats heading for offshore Sea Bass.. Not sure we will be able to do that, as its going to be tough for us if the trip is scrubbed last minute, and also I am not sure we can mail the checks in time.. Well, I guess We can overnight them I suppose..
Also consider a trip aboard one of the charter boats thats running open if anyone is doing that on Monday the 18th...
If the offshore trips are scrubbed, would we get our checks sent back?.. There would be no real way to reschedule before the season ends at the end of Feb... We both really want to do the seabass trip, but I am thinking it may be more sensible to walk onto a boat... Any thoughts??.. These distances make it really hard this time of year with the way the weather can change......\ I would appreciate some good advice on this... bob

I would hit the Jamacia , it is a 125' boat and still makes the run on most days. They have made the run when others canceled and had good fishing. They will still fish sloppy day and cancel only for real bad weather.
All reports I saw when they went when others canceled they still did real well. ( just a rough ride)

coming all that way this would be your best shot.

There are 4 spots available on the voyager. Call or email Jeff, let him know check is in mail. If trip get blown out you can get money back. You will know if the trip is canceled by 6pm the night you depart. I think its worth the chance especially if you get to cbass fish before season ends. I'll be going to montauk Sunday of president day with the chance of being blown out, that's a 4+ hour ride. I guess my point of any trip can get skunked at any time.

Yeah figured that would be the case... I was planning on the Big Jamaica, but at this point its not looking good.. I heard another big blow was headed for NY/NJ coastal areas... might have to miss the offshore sea bass this year.. it is really a drag living so far from the salt water when you LOVE fishing it... Fresh water is ok, but I don't ice fish, and really up here its only April through November for fishing unless you like to ice fish, and I don't.... Oh well.. maybe some ling or something in a few weeks,,, bob

Thats the problem.. At 6 PM the night we depart we'll be sitting in the Duncan Donuts near the circle after having put our rods and coolers on the boat.... Thats AFTER a 5 1/2 drive down, and another 5 1/2 back... Thats about $100 in gas, and a wasted day... I dunno, we'll see what happens.... As soon as we can we'll probably jush fish a short range boat for ling and bananas .. oh yeah, and horn dogs... LOL... bob

When I travel that far to fish (NH, MA) I book two consecutive days of fishing, makes the trip worthwhile and if one day gets blown out, I have a second chance.

If it was me traveling all this way and leaving way before most boats make the call, I would use the Jamacia which would give you a 80% chance of going out. just take sick sick pills:D i have been blown out 3 times so far on the boat I booked but the jamacia still made it out and did well each of those days
I prefer smaller less crowded boats but going 6 hrs each way I would go with the odds and do the biggr boat and prepair for a rough ride.

Nothing like relying on a wind forecast 9 days out when most weather outlets can't predict anything correctly or close to accurate inside of 24 hours. I would wait and see my friend.

Hit the salmon river for steelhead.....a few great guides up there. Chasin tail adventures or under the float guide service.

I can't agree with you more Allan I know I went on windfinder 3 days out & it was totally wrong. 9 Days out now that's crazy. I know when you travel 250 miles you want to be sure but give it a few more days.

I think the Jamaica will take a CC deposit or pay for ur full fair with CC. Get ur money back quick if they don't sail. At least you can reserve a spot and wait for the CAPTAIN to make the call on if they are sailing or not... Not a wind website.
As Blackbear said your best chance of any boat going out is the Big J. We left amd fished in 6'ers.
Good luck and brig a BIG cooler!

No I called, they do not take credit cards, which surprised me.. I have to send a check, and that adds further problems s it usually take 2-3 days.. We REALLY wanted to go out on the BJ, but it just might not be in the cards... Think I will wait a few more days, and then mail the checks using overnight mail, IF there are any spots open,,, If not we just fish on a short range PB, or see if by some miracle one of the charters running open for tog will take us on short notice... bob

I'd come down here anyway. Fish with the Paramount. If the Paramount does not sail go to Freehold Raceway and watch the harness racing. You can have lunch there as well.

Two boats in the same parking lot are going out that day, J II 5-5 then the Paramount 6:30-5. If the weather is iffy you can start with the first boat, if that boat doesn't go talk to the people that show and see if they'll stay for the next one which should get out. If for some strange reason the Paramount still doesn't get out they will send you to their cousin's boat in PPB. Unless the weather is really bad, you will get out on one of these, but it might require some waiting.

Thats why I didn't pull the trigger.. Its really tough when you live as far away as I do.. Before I spend a nickel on tackle, food, boat fare, or bait, I'm down $100
in gas and tolls.. lots of bread for a school bus driver..
If the trip gets called, I'm out $100 and 10 hours driving time...

I started hearing about high winds offshore early in the week and decided to hold off sending a check... maybe I will fish on one of the "local wreck" boats on monday, unless it looks really bad inshore as well... Such a drag living up here... bob

I hear you, but I didn't want to take the chance of not having a spot. Boats I contacting were filling up, a few were even booked and had a waiting list! I think the inshore stuff is dead right about now.
