Greeted to snow covered benches at 4 am this morning..telling myself this is why I Love winter ground fishing. Sailed with a pretty light crowd...between the Super Bowl and the weather I was figuring it would be light. Capt Steve made 4 drops today. 1 and 4 had some life but nothing crazy. Drop 2 had a mad dog blackfish bite for a while with my buddy nailing some nice keepers for the cooler.
Drop 3 was our Ling hole. I like ling fish so I was happiest here and put about 15 in the box during this drop and about 22 All day. I was using Gulp with clam on a single hook and it worked out pretty good.
Still plenty of keeper blackfish out there for guys targeting them with crab. I did bring up a small tog on gulp tho! Our third drop also had a surprise appearance by Mr. Whiting. Usual suspects as well..doggies, eels, and a few cod and I know of at least one Pollock.
Needless to say great day on the water and I'm enjoying some fresh Hake Cakes for my Super Bowl dinner.
