25' Sea Hunt Gamefish

Looking at buying this boat with twin yamaha 4 stroke 150. boat has 150 gallon tank . anybody have any experience in this but? ride? is this a good manufacturer. do not want to make an 82000 mistake.

Not sure of boat config- CC, Cuddy, Split console, bowrider or WA. But 300hp is a bit puny for that size boat. Cruise speed under ideal conditions would be low 20 mph or less fully loaded with people and full tank of gas.

Perhaps top WOT speed about 28-30mph which you do not want to run routinely WOT- 5000 rpms

I would opt up a notch 2x 200hps.

Are you buying it new?

I read a little about these boats, not a very popular brand but their owners seem to have good things to say about them and most come with twin 150 Yamaha 4 strokes which are great engines.

They also seem to have a very deep deadrise and a decent bow flare so the the hull should run dry and suck up he seas pretty well.

I would definately reccomend you sea trial anything before you buy it.

I have a 2012 22' Sea Hunt Triton which I got in June. 150 hours later, I can say that it' a very well-made boat with excellent sea-keeping abilities. I think the Gamefish line has been absorbed into the Triton line, but not 100% sure. Based on my experience, I'd buy another Sea Hunt in a heartbeat. Price sounds a bit high tho. Good luck!

CC's are much lighter boats. Still, as a few advised, do a sea trial. Demo tricks- 1/2 tank of gas(75 gallons) is 500 pounds you don't carry to slow you down while demo'ing. You don't leave the dock usually with a 1/2 tank of gas for a day of fishing unless its in sight of the dock.. Gas guages on boats suck for accuracy never rely on them...

If 4 guys go out with you, put 4 guys on test boat for your sea trial and full tank of gas( or equiv weight) . You will see it is NOTHING like the tweaked boat in the specs. The specs you got seem a bit suspect (very optimistic).

That's a decent sea trial. LIkely you will have another 500-600 pounds of gear. Like tackle, tool boxes, anchors, chain/ rode, fiberglass hard top with radio boxes, full live wells, iced up ice boxes, head installed, miscellaneous other just in cases.

The Specs seem overly optimistic. Here's a 25' Grady dual console ( a bit heavier 8'6" beam boat) with EXACT same 150 4 stroke Yammies:

Ability to CRUISE at 30 knots fully loaded ( which is reality) is a bare minimum. Anything above that is gravy.

A great hull with decent motors are a good investment. If either are missing, you'll be thinking about its replacement boat in short order.

REALLY... a 60 degree deadrise? Or 16 degree?

Most O/B cruise about 3500 rpms for top efficiency. Funny Yamaha is giving specs on the boat speeds. I guess Yahama must be co-owenerof boat company?

There are no dry riding CC's some are just wetter than others ! I can tell u one thing if it's 300 Yami , buddy of mine had issues with fuel filters clogging , after a few seasons seems OK now!
HIs boat weighs in at about 5k !
Plus three & gear runs forties top end, so in my opinion that engine would be plenty!

I don't think its a 300hp it's 2x 150hp's.

The sea tow boats almost all have Yamaha 200's, albeit two strokes. recent model years lost the injector failure problems that plagued them. Never had filter problems- that's 6 motors with 1000's of hours.

But motors are like people. Each is a little different.

Usually you do want to run O/B's in their 3500-4000rpm sweet spot for cruising. Not 5000-6000 rpms as it destroys them very prematurely.

SO look what that sweet spot speed is and decide if you can live with 25 knots.

Of course you can run 5000-6000 on every trip out and back, and you will be looking to repower a lot sooner than you'd like too.

i understand what you mean about going out with 4 peaple and a full tank .when i do a sea trial i will make sure i have 6 on the boat with a full tank I will probably upgrade to 2 225 yamaha. yes the boat has 60 degrees of dead rise here is a clip with specs of the boat i appreciate all input from everyone thank you very much.

I've had 2 Sea Hunt boats. 17 CC and 207 WA. The 17' would beat you to death but was relatively dry. The 20 has a better ride but going going back to Keyport in a west wind is nasty. They have a good flair and deep V entry. They are light and fast for their size. I'm very happy with the fuel consumption and power should not be an issue. The larger boats have more dead rise at the stern. My 20' has an entry of 55 deg and 16 at the stern. 25' must have close to 60 entry and 18 stern.

Sounds like a nice boat. The stern deadrise is key . When the boat hits planing speed and above the bow isn't even in the water so It's a non-issue.

A nice very flared bow throws the heavy seas away. Or least tries to and the wind brings it back.
