So after realizing my power was not coming on right away and I was probably off work for the week, I decided to hit up the passaic river at a spot where I hear striped bass have been caught. I threw swim baits, ghost colored xraps, ratltraps. After about 45 minutes of nothing I finally got a nice solid hit on my xrap. The fish struck and spit it out right away, all I could see was a bright reflection in the water of a fish probably 12-15 inches long. My guess was that it was a small striper or a white perch. What does everyone think? I was so pissed I didn't get him in.

Hey Anthony, could have been a small striper, possibly a white perch. The bigger perch I've caught have been in the 12"-14" range, so its possible. Keep in mind there are also lots of healthy Smallies in the tidal section, believe it or not. Ive caught them as far downsteam as Wallington.

Good to see that somebody is getting out.
Depending upon where you were fishing, it could have been any number of things. I've caught SMB in the tidal areas too, but not as far down as Skunk has. That said, it most probably was either a striper or a white perch.
I'm voting small striper though. :-)
