Well to all that are sitting listening to the weather, live at bayview condos right at the beginning of the navesink river next to sandy hook marina. Things aren't looking good, water level 2 ft from top of bulkhead. Sandy going to give me one between the cheeks on this one. Guess should have had flood insurance, of course that would have meant less fishing. Best of luck to all!!!

A special BEST OF LUCK to the captain that is anchored up in the middle of the storm.

Belmar and Sandy Hook currently forecast for tide height of 11' tonite. Bergen Point in NY may pass 12'. These will be historic tides. This storm is breaking all the rules. It WILL be strengthening as it hits the coast and it WILL come ashore PERPENDICULAR to the coast in an unprecedented manner maximizing storm surge to its north. Be safe all.

News 12 N.J. was in Atlantic Highlands. It's 9 A.M. and the water is over the docks. Trim tabs should be pretty close to the edge of the wood if not over the dock pretty soon. There could be some damage to those boats that are not tied up right. One funny story from a boatyard in Ocean County........A boat owner who was hauled and up on blocks near the end of the yard near the water wanted to dig a hole and drop his anchor because he was afraid the water would flood the yard and float his boat away. The marina owner said that he would drop the anchor for him, but it would be attached to the guys car.

News 12 NJ has reported that from Beach Haven to the southern end of Long Beach Island is under water. Winds at Harvey Cedars are 75 sustained. I'm sure Ship Bottom and Surf City is under water. Long Beach Township and Beach Haven Emergency Management is using high profile vehicles to get those who stayed off of Long Beach Island. They are asking that you park at the Engleside and await evacuation.

This is so sad for all of us. The area all us natives call "Down the Shore" is going away.

The next "sticky" will be asking for your memories of the Jersey Shore.

Good luck to all of you

The storm SPED TO THE COAST and has made landfall. Record low pressure measured in Atlantic City. Rain has stopped here, winds have dropped. Was able to use grill for hot dogs, amazing (power is out). No doubt many have already been affected and many more will be from power outages, but this could have been even worse if the storm hadn't made the beeline for the coast. Still going to be historic, my thoughts with all.

We will have a lot of wind out of the South now. Probably more rain later tonite and tomorrow.

If I am not mistaken, it is the NY reservoirs that are not lowered BEFORE the rains, that spill all that extra water down the Delaware?? I remember some folks in Minisink Hills along the Delaware that brought that point to light after those floods you mentioned. It would be irresponsible if that is the case once again, and people have to deal with un-necessary flooding.

Tide gauges started to drop around dinner time but then they shot right up again. Near 14' in Sandy Hook and the Battery. I feel lucky sitting here with a generator running. But my goodness the wind is howling again outside after near 4 hours of calm. Seems this thing came ashore and stopped.

Took a ride around town, I'm without power but neighboring towns have power. Chinese food was open, only thing open. Figures. Cleared 3 trees from roads with my 9 year old. We beat the weather back home, wind is howling again 30+ or more. Thankfully the generator drowns some of it out because it is no fun hearing it in the dark.

Listening to scanner of structure fires in Brigantine. FD tried to get there but water up to windshield and now they are trying to rescue the firefighters with a deuce and a half. This is a nightmare of epic proportions. My thoughts with everyone.

And to think if this thing hadn't got to the coast as early as it did this would all be even worse.

Up here in Morris County the wind is howlin. Luckily we still have power but the other half of the neighborhood is dark. I guess that makes up for the storm last Halloween when we were without power for 4 days. Knock on wood.

Spoke to my buddy Bill and his boat which was on a.floater in Leonardo State marina made it through. The floating dock is apparently no longer attached to the pilings. One boat sank but others that were on the bulkhead all the.way back were fine.

Looks like Wagners Boat Yard in Leonardo took a big hit. Boats all over the place so does not look good for my boat.

Brother Joe said the saw some footage from a plane that flew over Seaside Heights and said it was totally devastated. Anything 4 or 5 blocks from the ocean was wiped out. Bay apparently met the ocean.

Hope everyone is safe and sound. Power still out here in Edison but happy to still be in our home.

Drove through Leonardo and Atlantic Highlands today. I knew the storm was bad but seeing it first hand really was shocking. Contents of peoples homes at the curb, flooded out stores etc.

I really feel bad for all the people that were severely affected by this storm. At the same time I feel helpless to help them. There has to be some needs out there not being met and I think a lot of people would like to volunteer to help these families out.

If any of you on the site need some help or know of a family that does lets try and get organized to help them. Just cant sit here knowing what people are going through. Got to do something.

Bob and Adam, I am truly sorry for your loss and or troubles. I hope things return to normal soon. Gerry? The American Red Cross can use the help. Or if you listen or call to NJ 101.5 FM on your radio. A lot of folks are calling in to give help. The main thing is to help the American Red Cross and The Salivation Army.

Gerry? I think RFA and SSFFF.NET are set up for Pay Pal and such. What if they do a relief fund type of thing? If it works out, tell me. I will write to my friend in Delaware who has a huge email list and ask him to help. Plus I will write to everyone I know. Maybe RFA and SSFFF.NET can get the money raised to the Red Cross or something. Maybe if your marina is ok, we can do a clothing drive ? A canned food drive? One woman who called into NJ 101.5 said she had warm clothing and was in Union Beach and I think the radio station put her on the right track to help.

Lets do this!!!!

My wife and I bugged out of middletown today for the comforts of my brother in laws in upstate NY. On tuesday morning I got down to the shore to search for storm birds (had a distant tropic bird, and many parasitic jaegers off of the belford ferry), I was AMAZED to see the Elaine B sitting out in the Bay as he must have rode out the storm (a tip of the hat to that brave captain). My heart goes out to all of those who have lost their boats and their livlihood.

Need a licensed contractor for repairs to my mom (75 years old) house in Bayville NJ

Need gas furnace, hot water Heater, some Sheetrock and insulation removal, possible flooring work, the water went in the crawl space and seemed to just possibly touch the floor.

The mechanicals are in a small room outside the house, would like them raised for obvious reasons.

Also need a little Sheetrock and insulation, light carpentry in the garage.

Was down in Neptune yesterday with my daughter and her boyfriend Adam, who's parents have a home by the Shark River Yacht Club, to help with the clean up. What a mess there.

The Tidal Surge wiped out the entire first floor of their home. Looks like they had around 3 feet of water in it. Very sad to see all the people displaced from their homes and all their belongings on the curb :o

On the bright side, people from all over their community that lived on higher ground where there to lend a helping hand with clean up and others driving around in their cars offering food, drink, a place to stay or hot shower. Very heart warming to see and you can just imgaine how deeply this touched Adam's parents. Not sure they have fully digested this yet as they were in good spirits, but in the coming days the reality of this all is going to sink in.

My heartfelt prayers go out to them and everyone struggling through the aftermath of this storm.

I recognize that I am in a completely frivolous industry but if anyone has any light fixtures, wall lights, table lamps, etc that they value that were damaged in the storm I will make time for myself or one of my guys to help you if you are an NJF member. We are a for the trade metal and lighting restoration company but I'll gladly make an exception for NJF people.

On Monday I'm receiving a shipment of 10 brass floor lamps that were in 4 feet of water at a warehouse in Long Island City. We're taking them apart, polishing and lacquering them, and rewiring them before they get shipped out to Salt Lake City. The designer is in a tizzy over it. I think maybe he hasn't put the news on to see what's going on around here....

Hi all...
Was able to stay in my house till 6pm Monday nite by 5:30 I knew we were in trouble so my wife and me were able to get some of the more valuable stuff up to the 2nd floor. . . Like 47 rods :D and reels, pictures, ....easy stuff to carry.

I live on 4th st. In union beach, the water came up 6ft around the house, my garage was just about completely underwater, I'm on a crawl space so the water came up 3 ft in the house....just enough to ruin everything in there.

So at 6 we went to my mom in laws on 8th street, we had my boat, wife's car, mom in laws car and neighbors 50th anniversary convertible corvette in the driveway. She is up on a small hill so I thought they would be safe....I was wrong, the boat is the only one that made it. The water came up thru her crawl space about 10", the house was in 4-5ft of water.

At 1:30am I walked to get my truck(parked 12 blocks away on a hill) it was so surreal when I went outside, no one was out there were 2 couches in her yard, a bowling ball, tons of other shit. There had to be a foot and a half of marshland reeds surrounding her block...weird.
On the way to the car all I saw we're firemen trying to put out a fire on Florence ave to no avail. I swear I was worried I was going to see a body in the street it looked that effect up.
So I was able to get my wife, mom in law and 3 dogs to my sisters house in freehold by 3 am and that is where we have been staying. Been back to the house a few times met with FEMA and homeowners(who is useless, will only pay for wind damage nothing else). Waiting for flood to get back to us. I pray we don't lose everything but we're all safe and my family and friends(and even strangers) have been so nice/helpful.
If anyone live in union beach you can go to the police station, they have food, supplies...etc.

Really nice of people who have donated money, food, ........

Thanks again to all have helped...truly grateful.

Peter

Just got power back. Road out the storm at my parent's in Rumson as I knew my condo in Long Branch would be an island for a while. My parents lost a big tree, most of a fence and some bricks from a chimney. Got back to my condo Weds morning, lobby rug a bit nasty but my place fine and running on generator. Had plenty of fun with urban foragers coming by to say hello from time to time. Same was occurring in Rumson, Keansburg, Union Beach and Sea Bright.

Police were generally useless guarding gas stations while people's property was being victimized. Most "foragers" were not detained if they were caught in the act. Do know of one guy who fired a warning shot in Keansburg is on $350,000 bail while the forager was released. JCPL did not exceed my very low expectations. Town of Long branch did a fair job and Rumson was useless. I can only hope that some tough decisions are made regarding rebuilding rather than blindly putting everything back the way it was.

To my Friends and For everyone that was hit perhaps personally effected by Hurricane Sandy . Remember that even in great loss, and perilous times, God is always with us. He promises he will never leave us or forsake us.
As some may know we live on the North side of Brick township. NJ .We live approx 6-8 miles from Brielle and Point pleasant beach. Our family is all safe and in good spirits . To the south and east side of our town is where it took the biggest hit .
Snap shot. We are ok ... power back on helping out others in need now . Right after the storm hit when things were secure in our community I headed out to a few local shelters for volunteer work > Some were make shift , staging shelters to try to facilitate displaced folks. Now A few days later( in our immediate area) things are settled last day or so . Its the towns N S and EAST of us that need most help... Today was 2nd day back to work . We will be helping out now primarily through Calvary Chapel Relief which is in association our Church denomination If you have any need of help or can help locally PM me as i may be able to network some in your area
At this time Our thoughts and prayers are going out to everyone, especially those most effected my this storm. I know this is hard on everyone patching things up. But Just a reminder If you can help someone at this time please do even in a small way donate something even your time please reach our to your surrounding communities. If you donate money use discernment investigate as to where the money is to be used.. IMO Your local churches may be the best bet .
