Grab a pair of maja's - I got mine at west marine- so much easier to set a spoon rod with a long but straight up compared to the fixed mount I have, as well as that they also have a locking notch to twist into the roll pin in your holders- beware if you have a rodholder with a plastic bottom you can not use them without removing them and drilling out the plastic- I used a hole saw, rubber to wrap the holder with and a bench vise- hole drilled bottom, then bench drilled 1/4holes and used a stainless bolt w. nylock nut- this secures so well, you need two hands to twist in and out for locking.

Just my .02 of experience

New gimbals on holders aren't always metal- even the " high quality" ones I got...
